Sunny Health & Fitness 14" Threaded Chrome Dumbbell Bar Pair - STDBH-14

Quick Review: These dumbbell bars are great. They're heavy duty and seem like they can ensure some punishment. They seem equal in weight, and the star screw-on collars work pretty good. They can come loose while working out, so if you're doing an exercise where you're only using one at a time, I'd double up on the collars to make it a bit safer in terms of weights becoming loose.I am an experienced bodybuilder and use these at a second home in the middle of the woods. They work perfectly with my (awesome!) cement-filled standard (1") plates. Obviously these will not work with Olympic plates which require a 2" diameter bar. My only complaint is that the grip texture is different between the two - one is more aggressive than the other which, while not a huge deal, still bothers me. I prefer aggressive texture (but not sharp) to aid in grip and one is noticeably less-aggressive. Considering what I paid and what my expectations were, I'm not deducting a star for this :)

For all the exercising I do, I am a bit lazy when comes to changing the amount of weight during my dumbbell work. Hence, the need for another set of dumbbell bars. I now do dumbbell flies for my shoulder work. My doctor has nagged me about my rotator cuffs and I finally listened. So, no more shoulder presses for me. Bummer. But, flies work and as long as I can workout with a decent rhythm, I'm happy. This means different loads for the different deltoids and why I now have more of this type of bar. I can set them up before a workout and then not have to pause between the need to use a greater or lessor weight. I even have a dumbbell that I use just for overhead chest extension. I can jump right into chest day. I'm happy.

These dumbbell handles are really solid and well made. They do not have any cheap plastic on them, so when you are tightening up the collars you can tighten them really well and not worry about anything breaking. The handles have knurling on them, which I like and they feel comfortable. The handles are thinner than other dumbbell handles I used and that will affect how they feel in your hands, so make sure you are aware of the handle size of the dumbbells you are currently using so that you can see how these compare thickness wise. The good thing for me was that I just added a set of Thick Grips to the DB handles which fit perfectly. This allows you to use the DBs but get some grip work in at the same time. I would definitely order again.

You won’t be disappointed

I'm not so sunny at all about the finish of these dumbbells. The finish is really poor. The manufacturer stamped out the steel collars then neglected to remove any burrs in the metal, or smooth out the edges. They look like they were cut out with an industrial cookie cutter. I feel like if I get at all ambitious with these and inadvertently brush into myself doing curls, I'll end up bleeding from scratching myself. The chrome is indeed sunny and bright, but what with the problems with the metal finishing, some of the chrome is already wearing off because it can't stick to the rough spots, and that's just from the shipping. No way am I going to keep these in my garage or any other area susceptible to humidity or temperature fluctuations since that would wreak further havoc on the chrome. I can see these already starting to develop some rust and I haven't even used them yet. I own another pair of chromed dumbbells that are over 30 years old that have a much better finish, with just about the same amount of rust as this new pair. All this being said, I'll keep these dumbbells because they do work fine, but I'm going to keep them in a nice dry place in the house and try not to bash them into anything so the chrome doesn't fall off too quickly. I gave these 3 stars for being a decent product for the price, just a little rough around the edges, literally.

So I have a set of weights with a circumference of about 1.2 inches. These dumbbell handles are 1 inch, and boy can you feel the difference! They are SMALL. I didn't think the difference in size would be much, but it's significant. And I have small hands, so if you have larger hands, I would not recommend. That being said, the product itself is solid. I'm keeping them so I can use them with light loads.

Before I did my exercises by myself and now after buying second bar complete we doing it together with my wife.

Product is great! Same quality as the ones I got from Canadian tire. I was having issues with it becoming loose, but bought some rubber washers, used a quarter to cut out the middle and put it between the plate and the handle and no more loosening!!!
