Murakami never ever dissapoints
Murakami never ever dissapoints. His abstract way of making banal events like someone's evening work shift on their 20th birthday intriguing, his impecable narrative and his undeniable sense for details result in a genius short story about a girl who made one single birthday wish. What did she wish for? Did it come true? The answers to that are left to the reader's interpretation which I believe is the best part of the book. And actually the truth doesn't matter. Because ... ‘No matter what they wish for, no matter how far they go, people can never be anything but themselves. That’s all.’

Short and sweet
A lovely read if you don’t have much time, and a very Murakami story, leaves you wanting for more <3

Nice pamphlet this is not a book.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m a huge Murakami fan. I’ve read everything else I can find by him but nowhere in the advertisement for this book is it mention there is a 42 page pamphlet with large print. I am a bit hard of seeing so it made it easy for me to read. It is a good story, but come on this is a six dollar book with one short story.

Brilliant!
Birthday Girl is a crowning masterpiece! Pure Murakami. This book contains the essence of Murakami, distilled to the final drop! What a delightful read!

Unusually simple from a great writer
I had expected something more powerful from Murakami on a subject like this

Disappointing
Quite disappointing compared to the rest of Murakami.

Disappointing
Sadly, it lacks the spirit and imagination of Murakami's earlier books. Unimpressive and forgettable.
