Osbert Lancaster's Cartoons, Columns and Curlicues: Including Pillar to Post, Homes Sweet Homes and Drayneflete Revealed

This is a beautifully-produced edition of these three wonderful books, available at a very good price on Amazon Marketplace. The drawings are, of course, delightful, and the text is as entertaining and fresh as it was when the books were originally published. Not a substitute for the first editions of course, if you are lucky enough to obtain them in excellent condition, but a very nice thing to have in its own right. Very highly recommended.

Opinionated, deeply informed, hilarious! Osbert Lancaster's obvious and brilliantly expressed prejudices may put some off who subscribe to a more PC view of art and architecture, but such poor souls will miss the joy of his pin-point satire and the stimulation of disagreeing - or agreeing - with so much well-observed and brilliantly expressed criticism. I will return often and with glee to these volumes, and feel the better educated for having read Lancaster's them!
