What you need for Wildfire Season
MERV 13 and higher are the filters you need for wildfire smoke, which has the smallest airborne particles you are exposed to all year. You can get away with MERV 11 the rest of the year, but at the first sign of smoke in your area, change to a MERV 13. Within 3 months, or when fire season passes, swap out for a new filter. You'll be impressed how loaded your MERV 13 is, even if you have a pre-filter in front of it.Smoke particles range in size from 10 microns down to 0.2 microns and smaller. EPA measures and reports 10 microns and 2.5 microns, ignoring the smaller stuff. Using a Dylos particle counter, I monitored for >0.5 micron particles, and found that during wildfire season this is far higher than the 2.5 microns EPA is measuring for us. The smaller the particle, the deeper it goes into your lungs - and the harder it is for your body to clean it out.We have an electronic filter that's great at pet and dust debris, and frankly not bad with smoke, catching enough >0.5 micron particles to keep the house 20x cleaner than outdoors. It has two powered 16x10x4" elements. Turning off the power and sliding in the paper element, this paper filter fits that spot nicely, needing just a 1/4" notch in one corner of the filter's cardboard side to slide all the way in. In wildfire season, this filter is 20x more effective than the electronic filter at catching particles in the >0.5 micron range, as measured with the Dylos particle counter - keeping our house 400x cleaner than the smoky outdoor air.

This is the best filter in my opinion!
I have a central ac/heat unit in my house that has no are filter at all but a electric air cleaner that is supposed to zap particles out of the air, in the 3 years I have lived in the house I have never heard it zap anything. Found this air filter to be a perfect fit in my system. I removed all the electronic zap panels and replaced them with this filter. No more dust and pollen in the house!!! I will buy this filter every three months to ensure everything keeps running and cleaning efficiently.

Good Filter
This is a good thick filter. It does a good job in taking dust and particles out of the air. I would recommend this to anyone who has a dust, particulate problem.
