Really Great Playing And Sounding Guitar
These are really GREAT guitars. I have two. I'm amazed that they're able to make an instrument that plays and sounds this good at the price-point they're selling these. The guitar has a very comfortable neck, and with the full hollowbody, it sounds fantastic played unplugged (great couch guitar!). Plugged in, the pickups have a pretty good sound too. The guitar does need a little work out of the box to be its best though. The stock tuners are bad and need to be replaced. I also thought the trapeze tailpiece looked kind of cheap, so I've replaced that. I went to Stewart-McDonald for the parts. Their Golden Age tuners and thin-body trapeze tailpiece fit perfectly, without any alteration to the guitar. The tailpiece and tuners ended up adding another $80 or so to the price. After changing those things out, the neck and bridge needed some minor adjustment to fit my playing style and the intonation needed some tweaks to bring the tuning true. Once all that's done, the Johnson Delta Rose is an awesome playing and sounding instrument. Definitely worth the price and extra effort.

Quite good, QA Control lacking.
This is actually a very decent instrument.Really good ergonomic proportions andok pickups. However, the nut was cut wrong and the bass part of the neck beyond the 10 fret had a serious dip. High E string past the 12 fret had a row of low frets. So $100 for a fret level and new nut right out of the box. Returned guitar. Too bad, really.Sounded good, great for chord melody and some “fusionista” playing. Good sustain.Too bad, really.

ok for the money
I just bought the Delta Rose. I was too influenced by other reviews. You get what you pay for, and this guitar is equal to the price. It doesn't have the versatility it is reputed to have. It is ok for light jazz or blues, with a clean setting. The guitar is well put together. The top is a laminate, something to be expected in this price range. It is supposedly maple and spruce. It sounds more like mahogany than maple. Not very bright in sound. The neck is comfortable, but the action is a little high. Nothing that can't be adjusted easily. I am definitely replacing the EMG designed pickups. The three position switch is functional, but the neck pickup output is sub par. Finish on the guitar is good. You have to look very close to find the places that could have used more buffing before the final finish was applied. If I had heard this guitar before purchase, I wouldn't have bought it. But that is the chance you take buying mail order. The bottom line, I got what I paid for.

Pleased
My Delta Rose came from Douglas A Blubaugh. Extremely easy transaction. Shipped almost immediately, and arrived ahead of schedule and undamaged.I was a little skeptical because of the price, but I was pleasently surprised at the finish and detail.Replaced the strings, adjusted the bridge (moved it back about 1/2" from location when shipped) adjusted string height and intonnated the strings. For the money, a FINE little guitar. In short, one of the few mail-order guitars I've ever been truely satisfied with!

made in the ...USA
i bought my first johnson in 2012 thinking it was chinese because of the low price;i was wrong...found out recently that it is good ole 'merican made..i damaged my first-ugly back scratch-and had to have a cosmetically perfect one even though the first one played fine..these deltas are extreme value for money, beautifully machined and very playable, also pretty to look at..different tone woods give different sounds just as pickups sound diff..i have discovered over the years that spruce tops on mahoghany bottoms is my favorite tonal combo--hard to find in electric though easy to find in acoustic,,deltas have one glaring flaw though--the bridge is free floating,a nightmare of frustration when restringing..but just as i forgive my wife for her 1 flaw(she puts up wit my crap) I forgive this guitar because it rewards me with orgasmic tonal quality..great harmonics on tube amps, dial in mellow jazz, biting blues, even prehistoric BERRY and BEATLES..if you are a beginner, add this guitar to your list of potentials along with squire and ibanez and yamaha..to me--BEST GUITAR UNDER $400/

Playable out of the box, but much better with some TLC, and upgrades.
I bought this guitar because of it's small size, knowing I would upgrade it. The frets needed a lot of attention, put on better tuners, strings corrected the intonation. Now I play it all the time. If you have some basic skills on guitars, the Johnson will work well for you.

More Flash Than Substance
Initially I gave this guitar a great review, but now after having that guitar for a few years, feel I would be remiss if I didn't mention a few things about this guitar for anyone considering buying it. First, the tuners don't work very well. They were adequate at first, but got steadily worse with the passing of time.Another issue was the input. It was loose and eventually caused the guitar to go out at crucial times. Again, this was something that occurred over time.I would only recommend this guitar as a decent second guitar unless you wish to invest some money in it for setup and replacing the parts I mentioned. The guitar is very pretty, but in this case looks are definitely deceiving. If I had it to do over, I would just buy a Fender Squire or a Jay Turser strat and save about a hundred bucks.

My search for a decent hollowbody electric at a good price did not end with this one.
Looks okay and felt well-made (which is why I gave it two stars), but the sound is horrible - no acoustic resonance at all, even using a Fishman LoudBox amp. I bought it because there were a lot of favourable reviews. Hard to believe that the reviewer who owns 18 guitars was so impressed. Maybe the manufacturer has started using different materials.

Bought for husband, he says the sound it is surprisingly loud for its size and the sound quality is really good. He says it plays nice and it is a buy that he is extremely happy with. The guitar was worth the price paid. One minor downside he said is that the tuner doesn't stay tuned, but for 40+ dollars he will gladly invest in new machine heads.
