A riveting documentary
Well I’m absolutely staggered.I’m sure that folks now are getting used to the state covering up what happened during covid. The recent trial and scourging of Boris “why tell the truth when a lie gets you more book deals ” Johnson and the impending truth and reconciliation investigation into how the British government managed to stay drunk during the entire crisis without us knowing (largely because they kept us indoors while Matt Hancock sneaked out to Waitrose for the cheap, but decent enough for quaffing red). But I never realised just how hard the Hollywood cognoscenti had suffered!!My word. While watching this superb documentary, which had the production values that Louis Theroux would do his famous wide eyed “Really!!” to, the team filming must have had the tenacity of a “Crimewatch” segment producer to gain access of this kind. Never since Jaques Cousteau has a crew got so close to its subjects. The tale of Hollywood’s covid seems to be far more chilling than we ever thought. “A” listers filled the screen and dropped like flies in this highly polished think piece. The sight of Kate Winslet in a plastic bag alone after all she went through in that boat thing a few years ago was sobering. It’s a little disappointing that just as in the retelling of the WWll the Americans took the credit for eventually beating the virus and completely ignored the role of Boots the chemist and Lower Gornal Scouting Association hall where I personally received the life giving vaccine. The thought of American Doctors standing on corners in England’s high streets saying “hey baby, fancy an inoculation” while handing out nylon stockings and “Hershey Bars” is ridiculous, it just didn’t happen.Although at turns shocking, eye opening and yet somehow flawed in the way that only Hollywood can pull off without burying their heads in shame and joining the foreign legion, it may well serve as a warning from history. A warning that unless we take mass public health issues seriously we risk further pandemics, even worse ones. And should that happen we should fully expect a drop in the quality of our cinematic experience. I know several of you will say “ah but that has been taken care of by the powers that be and we are more vigilant and safer now “ . My point remains that no matter how advanced our technology AI will not now or ever be able to replicate or replicate the subtleties of a performance by the likes of Les Dennis or the satirical and nuanced observations of Rickie Gervaise or Ben Elton’s later ouvre.Watch the movie, learn if you can ( it doesn’t have a handy Nick Bloomfield-esq self narrated sub plot about how everyone is mean to him though so be warned!) and just apply that learning to your everyday life.Myself and my good friend Roger have resigned from the local library and now pay all our bills by direct debit. Have stopped eating anything grey and only wear man made fibres.I suggest you do something similar that doesn’t offend your core beliefs or your cultural sensibilities.

Great film
Very disturbing

Epidemic drama
The acting here is an excellent, with several big names on the cast. The pace of the drama is somewhat uneven, although the first hour is very good and the cinematography beautifully done in places.

Good, but not that much. Great Price
Sold and delivered by Amazon UK, at an enticing discount! No damage; new, shrink-wrapped. Bought for the Mrs, as her film interests include disaster films - including disastrous disaster fodder made for TV, and direct to DVD! I thought better of this, second time round, but, for example, an infected Gwyneth Paltrow stopping off for a bedroom reunion with an ex-manfriend, while flying back home to the wimpy husband Matt Damon, and their children, was a bit too vile (even for someone seasoned on "Knott's Landing") and did remove any sympathy for her while dying off! Lawrence Fishburne, Jude Law, Elliot Gould under utilized in a bleak, interesting story. I prefer the, then ahead of it's time, and more lively, OUTBREAK (1995) with a more capable director, and cast, in a bigger production, better story material, script, cinematography and aerial photography, Stereo soundtrack - including music score by James Newton Howard.

Great film
Really fab film. I've seen it many times and I could watch it many times more. Really believable, with stark reality in every moment.

Scarily predictive of the Covid pandemic
I didn’t see this film when released years ago so watched it for the first time only a few days ago. It was eerily similar to how COVID was handled - from denial and disbelief at first of what was happening to how it became managed/mismanaged by the Powers That Be! I probably wouldn’t have rated this film much when it was first produced but with hind sight…..

Scarily accurate
This came out before covid and the fact this film shows exactly how it started before it did is scary. Worth the watch

just like COVID
An amazing movie to watch, the reaction of the people is just like it was for COVID, but this movie was made 10 years before. Some movie makers really know what they are doing.
