The Complete Idiot's Guide to Genealogy, 3rd Edition

This was a used book and I didn’t check the publication date before buying. It’s outdated, but a genealogy newbie would find it pretty helpful, I think, because of the strategies and explanations, forms, etc. I wanted specific websites and databases, and many were outdated.check publication date before you purchase this.

What a tremendously helpful book for anyone interested in researching their family ancestory. So glad I read this book before I launched into my own family research. With the many years of experience and expertise these authors provide you'll find yourself using this book as a "Go-To" reference for some time. Many useful resource tools listed as websites and additional book titles to improve your library and research. Most useful were the many hints on what to do and what not to do based on the author's exprience first hand. They mention things you would never think of. Get this book – it's like a mini-library withiin itself.

I haven't read the whole thing yet but from what I have read, it's pretty good and complete. Really is meant for an "idiot".

I have not finished reading this book, but what I have read so far is very helpful.

The authors kept it interesting and gave a great overview. Plan to look into more books by these authors. Gives great tips for websites and places to look that are outside of the normals.

I'm hoping to get started working on our family tree this year and I think this book will help me with ideas on where and how to get that done.

Good book - just wish it had a chapter on the popular genealogy software and the final products you could produce.

I bought this book because I found it in the public library and found it very helpful so I wanted a copy for myself. I have already recommended it to others who want to know where to start with genealogy.
