Tech&Prep Reviews Leather Paddle Strop: Sold by Deerso: Fulfillment by Amazon
Hello and welcome to Tech&Prep Network! Today we will do a quick review the Leather Paddle Strop with three compounds. For the price this is a very viable option to purchase as a bundle. You would pay at least 10% more if you bought each one of these four separately.Pros:1. You are getting a discount with this bundle.2. Testing them out on a few knives this does do the job.Cons:1. The wood edges are not sanded down and are rough. I had to get sandpaper to sand the entire wood piece down or have a chance of getting splinters.2. You can make a higher or equal quality leather strop for much less and buy the three compounds at a large size. It literally looks like they penciled the shape, used a machine to cut it, perhaps bushed a sandpaper once on the edges, and attached the leather. They did it quickly and the quality is sure shown. Conclusion:If you want to buy the cheapest combined option out there then at the moment this is the best option. However, if you can go out in your yard, or pick up a large chuck of wood, pencil a shape, and have your own leather at home you can easily do a better job than what I was sent. All that would be left would be to buy the compounds at a larger and cheaper size and save over 50% of the bill. This product is without a doubt a solid three. Thanks for taking the time to read the review! Please rate it below to let everyone know!

It save my straight razor
Last year I bought an straight razor, I pay a lot of money for it. I came shave ready but after 3 months of using it it start pulling real bad even though I was stroping it every day in a regular strop ( long one) the same barbers use, about 50 times before shaving, then I bought a 100 dollar Japanese stone naniwa 12000, and a Norton 4000/8000 grit. I used them all and nothing work like this item( leather paddle strop)I used with the green compound and I just shave and it was much better than new. I was about to quit using my straight razor all together but since I bought this strop originally for my hunting knives I used it and for my surprise work much better than anything I use before, including my expensive strop ( my old one). I believe that this is better because you will have more control over each movement (strop) since honing an straight razor is so delicate this is a better choice. Hope this help new straight razor owner to not give up, sometime the answer is closer and cheaper than we think. Sorry for my English I'm GERMAN

A little pricier than what I've seen elsewhere, but still a solid deal.
Perfect size for most of my fine kitchen knives as well as for my carving knives. The leather looks fake, but I'm guessing it's real since it holds up as though it is.My only suggestion would be to include a short description of each of the strop compounds -- their fineness -- for the dark red is confusing. Some websites say "dark brown" (which could be this color) is coarse/medium grit, but others say red is for ultra fine polishing. I am leaning toward the latter since I don't see much steel residue on the red portion I've made for the strop. Green seems to be pretty fine, while white is a good all-around compound. I've also loaded this strop with Flexcut's yellow compound.Strop cleans up well: just sit it in the sun for a little while, and scrape using the back of the knife blade.

Perfect Final Step for Sharpening
Excellent quality leather, full 3" by 8" on both sides and 5/32" thick -- exactly as advertised. Came with three compound bars as shown. The leather is affixed to both sides of a 3/8" thick maple paddle. The handle edges are a bit sharp, but easily corrected with a quick sanding. A lanyard is included as shown in the photo.Made in USA -- shipped quickly via 1st class mail and arrived in about 4 days. This 3"x8" model is perfect for kitchen knives, but seller has other sizes and I plan to buy a smaller version for my pocket knives and tools.Highly recommended -- I don't think you can get a better strop at any price.

I was under the impression that the green stropping paste is the finest of the three colors
I'll update this as soon as I can reasonably use it. I was under the impression that the green stropping paste is the finest of the three colors, but there was no color code in there. The reason I can't use it effectively right now is because the razor I ordered was not shave-ready when I got it. I did use the paddle strop with the green paste, but the blade wouldn't sharpen. Then I went to a whetstone. Then, while using the whetstone, I noticed the blade was warped. I don't know if that contributed to the loss of edge, but I'll update when I get my new razor.

this is a very good beginner's strop
For the price, this is a very good beginner's strop. I have only used the green polish, on one side, and bare leather on the other side for my purposes. I use this about once a month on my knives after a 6k stone. The difference is very noticeable. The construction is OK, but as I said, it is great to learn the technique and does a good job at putting that last finish on your blades.

Does the job. No guide so your IQ better be around 90
Straight razor is now nice and sharp. Minus one star for no instructions. So I rub green, brown and white crayons all over this paddle and call it a day? Not serious but a guide would be nice.

Very Very sharp knives
Using the red and Green polish after using a DMT Diamond sharpener, I was able to get my Kershaw Knife sharper than factory sharp. In fact ran through sharpening a number of knives and was able to get them close to factory sharpness of my Benchmade Knife which is a scarily sharp knife. Leather seems the be very think at an 1/8 of an inch handle is small but comfortable enough. I have used expensive water stones 800 to 3000 Grit and never got anything this sharp.
