This 5-pound can of rye contains clean, fresh grain, making it ideal to grind in my flour mill. Bread made from it and hard white flour is fabulous. The only drawback to this purchase was the size of the can. Because it must be opened with a can opener, you need to open it either with the manual kind or, as I did, tip the electric one and hope you don't damage it. (I had gotten rid of my manual can opener when I discovered the type that cuts the outside of a can without creating a sharp edge.) The plastic top -- the type you'd find on canned coffee -- fits tightly. I have to make sure that it's on properly when I store it.Although I wish the company would improve upon its storage can, the product itself is first-rate.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

The rye came in a coffee can style container that requires a can opener to open. Like others have said, it’s a pretty thick lid and requires a little work to get it opened using a handheld can opener. Other than that, the seeds appear clean and in good shape. I’m using the seed as part of a whole grain style oatmeal — 30 minutes in an instapot with a 2:1 mix of water:grain makes a great breakfast.

I am amazed! I just grabbed a handful of seeds and dropped them into the ground and the sprouts are already big! Just in less than a week! I could not believe, they are alive, they are real!!! I also make tea from those seeds.

My cats insisted upon it. Four stars or they will continue to, scratch, fight, and hiss at each other on my bed while I'm trying to sleep. Pliable jerk that they know me to be I accepted the deal, they didn't keep it... Such is life, as the more philosophical cat (Tiger Cat Jones) of the two carefully meowed to me, real slow, like I'm a slow idiot or something.Sylvester, the more mentally challenged of the two sat with his arse directly over my face, then turned around and smelled my breath for what seemed like an eternity, I take that as a direct endorsement of the product.If the thought hasn't crossed your mind as of yet that I'm not exactly the cat whisperer, or an expert on seeds perhaps you should be reading some other, hopefully more helpful, though obviously less interesting review of these things.

I really like this rye grain. I’ve been grinding my own grains and making bread for years, and this rye is the best I’ve seen. The grains are large, very clean, with very few broken kernels. The fact that it comes in the oxygen free cans means I can have small amounts open that are always fresh. This is much more convenient than buying in bulk or five gallon buckets, which (especially with rye) can be hard to use up in a timely manner. I will certainly buy this product again.
