Product Description STARSHIP TROOPERS 3: MARAUDER explodes with mind-blowing man-on-bug combat! Col. Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) is back to lead his team on a secret mission to rescue a small crew of troopers stranded on the remote planet of OM-1. Battling bugs, both new and old, the new "Marauder" advanced weapons technology may be their only hope against a treasonous element operating within the Federation itself. As Captain Lola Beck (Jolene Blalock) and the rest of the starship crew fight to survive in the harsh conditions, it begins to dawn on them that something on OM-1 is very, very wrong. This time the bugs have a secret weapon that could destroy humanity. Join the Mobile Infantry in this intergalactic action-packed adventure. .com Hewing closer to Paul Verhoeven's original and much-maligned Starship Troopers than the all-brawn-no-brains sequel, Hero of the Federation, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder blends high-power action with a dose of socio-political commentary in its story of gung-ho Marines versus insidious alien bugs. Ed Neumeier, who penned the Verhoeven film, is back as writer and director, as is Casper Van Dien as lantern-jawed hero Johnny Rico. Now a full-fledged colonel, he is dispatched to a planet where the military faces opposition from both the insect army and dissenting citizens. But after a trumped-up murder charge lands him on death row, Rico discovers that he's being sent on a secret mission to rescue a Sky Marshal (Stephen Anouke) who's gone missing deep in bug territory. Neumeier uses the well-worn military movie tropes to launch a satiric assault on all manner of current real world issues, from ultra-patriotism and military torture to religious fundamentalism and even pop culture as propaganda (Anouke's sky marshal is also a chart-topping singer). He lands a fair share of his jabs, and those that fall flat--Marnette Patterson's grating flight attendant--are tempered by sights like a ring of mechanical warrior 'bots forming an angelic halo. Unfortunately, said special effects are not particularly special, with the robots--the Marauders of the title--arriving far too late in the game. But with so many direct-to-DVD genre titles delivering little more than shoot-em-ups and CGI demonstrations, the tinge of black humor that runs through Starship Troopers 3 is appreciated. The disc includes two commentaries, one featuring Neumeier, Van Dien and Jolene Blalock (Enterprise), and the other with Neumeier and producer David Lancaster; a featurette on the new bugs on display in Troopers 3, as well as interviews with the movie's soldiers, round out the extra features. --Paul Gaita

As good as the original
Starship Trooper II is as least as good as the original. The special effects, acting, social commentary and gore levels are on par with Verhoeven's first effort. Although he did not direct this one, he did produce it.There is again gratuitious nudity as in the first, showing that male and female Mobile Infantry troopers are equal. Sadly it does not include Joelene Blalock (Topol of Star Trek: Enterprise). We do get to see her sweaty in a t-shirt, but not in the nude group body scanning scene. What I particularly liked was the introduction of the Marauder, which if you never read the book, was the basis for the MOBILE in Mobile Infantry. In Heinlein's book, all the infantry were housed in robo-mechanical suits that allowed them to take assisted leaping strides of a mile, which allowed a squad to cover an area the size of Texas in an afternoon. Find bugs? No problem, they would nuke them with tactical nukes launched from shoulder mounted launchers carried on the suit. While the Marauder in the movie is more like a MechWarrior than the original suit envisioned by Heinlein, it is a step forward and away from the retarded mass charges and cattle herd movement that passes for tactics in the first two movies. Weapons? Don't get me started. The Federation can travel to the stars but cannot field an infantry weapon that can vaporize a bug in one shot instead of taking 100? Puhleeze!I get tired of watching the troopers stand and chew up a bug with 200 rounds when even today, we have weapons that could do the job with one round. I guess Mobile Infantry doctrine is to let the bugs have a fighting chance to make it interesting. As to the religious connotations, the previous reviewers evidently missed the irony and sarcasm. Humans mistaking a giant brain bug as God? The lights on a lander highlighting a person's head as an angelic halo? Come on. Then the Federation goes all opportunistic much like the Holy Roman Empire...if you can't beat them...co-opt it for your own use and go all crazy with it. The last faux news reports highlight the fact that the Federation is about as religious as was Hitler. Too funny. It is a good popcorn and beer movie. Well worth the rental or used purchase.

This disc is totally kick ass, whoever testifies different doesn't have the right set up for sure. The audio is especially noteworthy.Just for the sheer action quotient is worth it!!!!

Worthy follow-up to the original movie
"Starship Troopers 3" was exactly what I was hoping for - a *worthy* sequel to the first one, which is one of my favorite scifi movies. The satire is laid on a lot thicker this time, probably because so many people missed it the first time around (the singing Sky Marshall made me laugh; also, the use of religion as wartime propaganda is spoofed quite mercilessly).Amazingly, Van Dien has hardly changed since the first one - except that now he's even more buff - and he acts well. He seems to feel comfortable in the role, and it seems like he and the other cast members had a great time filming it.Even the special effects were surprisingly good for such a relatively low-budget movie (even great at times; pretty bad at other times, but we're forgiving), and most important of all, the *story* felt like a good follow-up to the first movie, which was not the case with SST2.Also, I loved the marauder suits, even though they have relatively minor screen time. Which begs the question: what are the odds that there will be a SST 4?

Come on you apes, do you want to live forever?
I watched the first one, and then this one. I seem to get it and am starting to see it around us today. But, as for the movie. It was good. Effects were good. Nice addition to the first one.

Entertaining Sci-Fi Movie
Having seen all three Starship Trooper movies, I would rank this one at least comparable to the first. The second movie of the 3 was the one which I could not recommend. Some reviewers seem to think the special effects were not that good but I thought that was only partially true. Some scenes could have been done better but there were some good bug-blasting battles which one would expect from Starship Troopers and some of the special effects were first rate.Atheists may be offended by the very definite and, to me, inspiring references to God in this movie but they can console themselves with most other movies Hollywood puts out which only mention God as an expletive.Starship Troopers is good, sci-fi fun. Johnny Rico obliterated a whole bunch of bugs. The Federation is still going strong. The appearance of the Marauder suits was a blast and it is even possible in the sci-fi world of the future to have reverence for the Creator. Wow. What more could you want?

GOOD STORY, good writing, no budget.
Usually it's in the writing that sequels take a bad turn. The writing here is excellent. Unfortunately, and I will never understand this, but this movie just obviously did not have the budget it needed. I will never understand how that is possible after the fantastic success of the first starship troopers. But... Things happen. At least we can appreciate this for what it is. The world building here is good. The original RICO returns and he's awesome.

Heinlein writes a better book and filmmakers can a movie . . .
Years ago, I read the original 'Starship Troopers', by Robert A. Heinlein, and saw it as he did, an ANTI-WAR novel. Since then, people have been (deliberately, I think) misinterpreting it, turning it into a book glorifying war. Then they made a movie of it, which seems to support a position very different from his. Of course, movie makers seem not to get it right most of the time, so I'm not so surprised - Their business, obviously, is to make money - but as a movie, it just isn't the book. As a movie, it was enjoyable, and fairly well done. No one, of course, can reproduce on film, that story which can be seen in one's mind, and that is always going to be a problem, especially with the works of this fine author. That said, I still think I got my money's worth - just not as much as I wanted.

Nowhere near as good as the first Starship Troopers film
Nowhere near as good as the first Starship Troopers film. Acting is pedestrian & the special effects are ok. Turn your brain to the off setting & just enjoy the bug splatting that is all there is.

This is OK, but not as good as the first two films in the series. Still worth watching if you have seen the other two though.
