Perfect!
This is a good selection of wood chips. We are new to smoking meats or fish, and our DeMeyere stove smoker has not even arrived just yet. On YouTube I saw that people prefer different kinds of wood chips for different kinds of meat or fish. I guess we will have to see for ourselves what we like best. This set is a great selection. The containers were full (all 8, I checked), and we are ready when the DeMeyere smoker gets here.

Best cold smoke chips I could find
First, please note that these are small wood chips/sawdust that is intended for use with an indoor cold smoker, not a backyard BBQ smoker. I see a bunch of 1-star reviews by people who apparently expected large wood chips for a backyard BBQ smoker, but they clearly didn't read the description where it's stated multiple times what it is. Having said that, this is great value for the money. I looked hard and couldn't find better cold smoke fuel for a comparable price. The flavor isn't quite as intense as some of the much more expensive suppliers, but it's still good and I'll be buying from them again. Though not for a while, because this package came with enough wood chips to last me for over a year (I only use a few pinches per week to smoke steak). I'm glad I got the mix pack to try out different flavors, but in the end my favorite is hickory. Hickory has the most intense smoke flavor of the various types, which I guess is why it's so popular. Cherry is the sweetest, while Oak and Alder are like milder forms of hickory.

Works well in smoke guns – not for smokers or barbecues
I’ve written a lot of reviews and read a lot of reviews, and I’m no longer surprised to see questions, or bad reviews, that are clearly a case of this one fact: the reviewer/purchaser DIDN’T READ THE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION COMPLETELY.That’s the case with the smoking ‘chips.’ One problem might be that, by calling them ‘chips’ (rather than, perhaps, wood for smoke guns, or something more descriptive), some buyers may expect to receive ‘chips.’So: a few comments about this product. Some reviewers complain that this is very fine, like sawdust. It is. Smoke guns only require a pinch or so of the very fine wood in order to get the smoke gun to work. Larger chips wouldn’t work. Some reviewers complain that there isn’t very much in these containers. There isn’t. The product is made for smoke guns, not for barbecues. It only takes a pinch for the smoke gun. EACH of these containers can support a LOT of pinches, and will last a LONG time when used in the way it’s supposed to be used. Some reviewers complain that the ‘chips’ burn out too quickly. It does – if you misuse it and try to ‘smoke’ your food in a smoker box or barbecue. The point is – this wood does exactly what it’s supposed to do, if it’s used with the right device (a smoke gun). Purchasers should be able to see that these are only made for smoke guns, and shouldn’t be surprised by what they’ve received.NOTE: Although I’m using this ‘sawdust’, I also have a Traeger barbecue that uses compressed wood pellets, from a variety of woods. I haven’t tried this, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if I’m able to grate a pellet into small ‘sawdust’ that does what this packaged material will do – but doing so would be a hassle, and it would take a lot of pellets to get as much fine wood as these ‘buckets’ hold.If this review was helpful, please indicate this by checking the icon below this review.

Great aroma and flavor
I smoked a sablefish fillet on the stovetop with a home made smoker. Wow! The chips started smoking almost instantly and the fish was done and served in less than 25 minutes, start to finish.

Love my stovetop smoker!
I use my Cameron Stovetop Smoker for all kinds of meat and fish. I have an assortment of wood varieties to fit whatever I am smoking. I use this to jack up the wood grill flavor prior to sous vide cooking and searing. Great for trout, salmon and shrimp too. Will be placing my second reorder shortly.
