Extremely Useful. Exactly Accurate. Perfect Clari
Summary: This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it for students, technologists, and skilled practitioners.Technical Books have two audiences:1) Linear Readers (beginning to end) and2) Topic Readers2.1) skim the introduction,2.2) search for topic of interest: look at table of contents or use electronic search on keywords2.3) iterate3) Communications Engineering Students - linear readers3a) you will find this book wonderfully accurate, very instructive, and with a single voice of exposition that is informed and genuinely interested in the topic. This is subjective, but to me the work is not "dry," because the author has an interesting perspective on almost every topic. You will, by example, learn a personal approach driven by intellectual curiosity that includes "how to think about a topic," in addition to "the formula." Technology and Innovation comes from curious minds exploring something "new to them." Everything else is just robotic goal-seeking. Profitable, but not disruptive or creative.3b) Technologists: Topic Readers. Industry knowledgeable, mathematically comfortable3b.1) likely "accessible with some work"3b.2) You will find this book extremely useful and, because of its style, nearly impossible to extrapolate into error.3b.3) upside: clear, concise, lucid, and most importantly: accurate.3b.4) downside: very few general statements that can be picked up rapidlyFor the most part, this is actually good, because general statements always have boundary conditions and the "skimmer" rarely notices those constraints, and has the risk of extrapolating a true point into error.3c) Skilled practitioner reference: Topic Readers3c.1) communications engineer or person with no communications theory background but strong mathematical skills in Probability, Linear Algebra, and Statistics.3c.2) immediately accessible, accurate, clear, concise, lucid explanations on all application questions3c.3) Utilitarian:3c.3.1) you will find this book's information content very useful for fresh learning or as a reminder of topics previously studied.3c.3.2) if you have to create a presentation or a paper for a customer, class, or industry forum on an aspect relating to this book's topics; you may find this book has concise explanations for background material that can save you considerable time.3c.4) Opportunity and CreativityPerhaps the most useful opportunity: by reviewing topics you know well, you may benefit from the personal insights in how another skilled practitioner (Dan) approaches those topics. This may seem "dry," or even "derivative," but when I am looking for inspiration, often, I find this kind of book the most useful. Knowing the answer in advance, I can see how others approach the answer. Not always, but occasionally I get tremendous inspiration from walking through another person's approach.Caveats:1) Most people approach learning from many different preferences and often different levels of experience. As other reviewer's note: one of the strengths of this work, is that Dan's exposition is richly informed by the exactly correct level of mathematics. However, in pursuit of accuracy and clarity, this style requires the reader to understand the mathematics used to explain the concepts. 100% of all mathematics used are fully and usefully explained in the first half of the book.Disclosures:1) I have worked with Dr. Bliss on several communications engineering projects that achieved remarkable technical success, largely due to the accuracy of Dan's algorithm design, associated algorithm team mentoring skills. Dan and I were privileged to work together as peers (organizationally, not technically *smile*) for the amazingly inspirational DARPA PM Mark Rich as well as Mark's remarkable mentor, Dr. Paul Kolodzy. Subsequently after Dan left Lincoln Laboratory, we were able to engage Dan and his team ASU/Bliss Laboratories. Dan wrote this book while at ASU.2) I am technologist working as a systems engineer and often as a principal investigator who is not an expert in the topic area of this book, so this book is very valuable to me.

A Good Book But Heavy on Math
MIMO technology has the abililty to change the future of telecommunications and will play a big part in future generations (e.g. 4G, 5G ect..). Therefore, the title and content of this book is extremely important in the engineering world. The authors have put together a formidable book, unfortunately they belong to the family of engineers that believe mathematics to be a universal language unto itself, where to a mathematician, you can even use math to explain your weekly grocery list. This book tackles MIMO with an overly heavy emphasis on math, so if your an engineer like myself who left university/college 20 years ago and needs to brush up on MIMO for work purposes, this book does not hit its mark.I would give it 5 stars for the math, but only 3 for engineering. At the end of the day, this is supposed to be a book in wireless engineering focusing on MIMO. Four stars is the middle ground.***NOTE: If you do belong to the family of engineers who prize math over engineering, this book will certainly fit the bill.
