My First Book of Knots: A Beginner's Picture Guide (180 color illustrations)

This book was a gift to my 8 year-old grandson for Christmas who recently became a Cubscout. Unfortunately, the electric dirt bike trumped the knot book but I expected that. I was quite pleased with the knot book myself and I'm sure my grandsoneventually will be too. The illustrations are beautiful, the instructions are clear (all except on one knot that neither I nor my son-in-law could figure out), and the applications of the knots were adequately explained. I would highly recommend this book for someone of any age. I have one suggestion for knot-book authors. My old knot book came with a hard cover that had holes in it and included a nice piece of cord. Still have it, still practice my knots with that book and cord.

looks like a good book for a young person to start learning how to tie knots.I think after looking through several knot books the best and most accurate way to learn is by having someone with knot tying experience demonstrate how to tie knots but it's great to have a book to read about knots and what they are used for.

Great book on knots. I gave the first one I ordered to my 13 year old nephew & he immediately started working on knots. The book has a collection of useful & strong knots as well as those that are decorative.

This is a well written knots book that works well with our preteen grandkids. The guidance is easy to follow, the full-color graphics are well done and interesting, the selection of knots is about right for beginners -- covers many uses. We bought a second one for our other grandson. In addition to the graphics showing how to tie the knots, they show the knots being used in various settings to demonstrate them.

If I as an adult can't figure how to tie these knots I don't know how a kid is supposed to.The book relies almost solely on illustrations. More instructions would be very helpful.

I was never much of a knot person, even in my days as a Boy Scout, but "My First Book of Knots" is a great reference for those that want to learn knot-tying. The book goes over a fair amount of useful knots, sorted by category, and also mentions the right application for each knot, which I think is very important. Most of the instruction on tying the particular knot comes from the illustrations which are very colorful and easy to see. There is also mention of variants in the knots to accomplish specific tasks. However a few of the illustrations are of just one picture and not step-by-step (mostly variants of knots), and I find that some of these pictures are better viewed on a tablet screen instead of over a smartphone because of the small size. Nevertheless, you should be able to find a knot for any type of situation and this book is a great aid in finding that particular knot.

This is a super cute book of knot tying. I purchased this to help my daughter with a girl scout badge and it is the perfect level for a beginner in the knot tying world, regardless of age! I would highly recommend this book.

My kids and I have tried several knots from this book while camping and fishing. Great book for any outdoors person

My nephew loved it. I must admit I enjoyed a bit also when trying to do the knots for him. Good education fun for kids that keeps them outdoors or at least away from the playstation for a few hours. Don't forget to buy some rope for the kids to make the knots with.

As an adult learning knots to teach to children in my role of Forest School I have found this really useful. The illustrations and instructions are fool proof to a novice and its full of interesting information regarding the history of knots and rope.

Full of colorful illustrations. Loved reading it. The intermediate steps are very useful andare very easy to follow even for a kid. The part that describes "where it's used" is really crisp and makes each knot interesting and gives context when and where to use. Really worth the money.

Son loves it. Tried to hang our cat with the new slip knots he knows how to tie. 🤣Jokes aside, it's a good buy.
