This acts like the third Jurassic Park......
For what Primeval is doing for a B grade movie is rather impressive. For B grade movie fans, this is kind of movie is very much re-watchable. Was searching for something in my head to compare this to, and I'm having to go with Jurassic Park III. I say this, because the visual style is strikingly similar, yet at the same time, more than half the film is shot at night during the downpour, and getting the proper rendering of CGI of a killer crocodile I find rather impressive. Yes, this would've done better if they had the lead male role performed by say, Bradley Cooper, but it does fine without. The monster-like animal may not be as massive as the spinosaurus, but this crock has killed way more humans. The wide angle shots of Africa are amazing and this is one thrill ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Yes this is a big bowl of popcorn for this movie, It will have you rooting for the people to get away and then for the beast to catch them. Lots of action another one for the movie library, you will not be disappointed

Way better than I expected
Been on a crocodile movie kick lately. Saw Eaten Alive, Lake Placid, and just got done watching Primeval. While a movie like Lake Placid is exactly like what you'd expect it to be like, Primeval was much different. I'll admit I went in not knowing much about this movie other than it was about a killer crocodile, and "based on true events," this movie was actually way better than I expected. The Civil War going on in the African country where the movie takes place provides an equal threat to the characters as the killer croc. If there's one complaint I do have with this movie, it's that the CGI croc looks fake (Better than most, but still CGI). In a movie like Lake Placid this is okay because Lake Placid is not meant to be taken seriously. Primeval takes itself much more seriously, and in a lot of horror movies, CGI can really ruin the movie, however it didn't ruin Primeval. The camera work and setting really helped make the movie suspenseful. At the end of the day Primeval is still a "killer crocodile movie," but it kept my attention and was way better than I expected.

DELICIOUSLY CRISP BLURAY & A HEART-POUNDING HORRIFIC STORY BUT TOO MANY F-BOMBS
This is one of those high powered shock thrillers that the producers/directors thought it necessary to have nearly all the characters blurt out the f _ _k word when fright grips them in terror! I protest this in movies so I took off a star, but took care of this blight myself!!, as I have some very good apps to edit with and sliced out EVERY F _ _ K there was !!... which took some REAL time, especially when it comes to saving back into a Hi-Def file. I burned it to a DVD disc at mp4, then stored it WISHING the BluRay was the disc I wanted to use, as it is beautifully filmed and fabulously acted for a realistic crocodile hunt into Africa that eventually grips you with wild, scarey ultra hi-fi sound-effects and beautifully edited horrific, bloody croc attacks and breath-taking escape tries. My F_ _ K edited sentences made this fast moving fright movie well worth the effort as I will put this right up there close to my Indian Jones movies which,... didn't NEED to have f_ _k words for the fast paced shock and awe scenes to be fun and ultra exciting!

Not as advertised, but still a great movie.
Like a lot of people, when I first saw the previews for this movie I was expecting a horror film about a killer Crocodile. The croc ended up almost being a sub-plot amidst the civil war torn area in which it hunts. I think this is why so many people were disappointed with it and for this, as always, I blame Hollywood producers who don't have enough faith in their product to market it as is. This is what happens when studios are run by people who went to business school instead of film school. The film follows a news crew trying to document the capture of this unusually large (though exaggerated compared to the actual croc it is based on) crocodile in the area of Burundi which is suffering from a civil war which happens to be as much a part of the story as the croc hunt. This is loosely based on the PBS documentary 'Capturing the Killer Croc.' I'm not a big critic of acting talent. I've always taken the view that as long as the acting is not so horrible as to make the movie unwatchable then I'm happy. That said I had no problem with any of the performances in this film. The story kept me hooked and the special effects were pretty awesome. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a good film that goes beyond just being a gore fest, though there is plenty of gore to be had here.

"I feel like a pork chop on Queen Latifah's dinner plate."
Tim Manfrey, his cameraman Steven Johnson and another reporter called Aviva Masters travel to Burundi. They've been sent to cover Matt Collins' attempt to capture a 25 foot Crocodile called Gustave, that has gained legendary status as a man eater. Soon after their arrival they meet up with paid hunter Jacob Krieg, and the five of them along with some guides and security set off into the swamps to capture the crocodile. During the hunt for Gustave, the group have to deal with a local warlord when Steven films some of his men execute a family. The movie is 2/3 a political drama/thriller with the civil war and genocide going on in Burundi, and their battle with the warlords men who are trying to kill them. Maybe 1/3 of the film is a killer crocodile horror movie, a good thing in my opinion as the crocodile CGI wasn't brilliant and I tend to enjoy movies that mix genres. The movie was promoted as being about a serial killer called Gustave, who has killed hundreds of people. Gustave is the name of the croc who is based on a real crocodile in Burundi named Gustave, who is a notorious 20 foot man eater that still roams the swamps today. There was no mention in any of the trailers that Gustave was a crocodile, in another shocking display of false marketing. The acting was pretty good, I liked Dominic Purcell in Prison Break and he was good here. Jurgen Prochnow played Krieg and he's always welcome in a B movie, Brooke Langdon and Orlando Jones give decent performances. Orlando Jones' character makes a comment towards the end of the movie that some sensitive people may find racist, despite it actually fitting the character and being amusing. It's directed by Michael Katleman who is a TV director having directed episodes of Smallville and Tru Calling among many others, he keeps the movie going at a pretty good pace once we get past the slow start. It was shot in Africa, so the scenery is good, showed off by some excellent cinematography. The crocodile looks okay, but a little bit too computer generated and the CGI blood is a big no for me. Corn syrup and red dye isn't that expensive and looks so much better. If you want a killer crocodile movie then I suggest the excellent Black Water or Rogue, if you want a political thriller with a killer crocodile thrown in, then this is a good way to spend 90 minutes. The DVD has a commentary by the director and the visual effects supervisor, where they gush over how magnificent the movie and effects were. It's actually quite informative as they tell tales about members of the crew whilst filming, and they go into detail about how they run out of money. There's also deleted scenes and a croc-umentary, showing how they brought Gustave to life.

Lyrical Horror
This film is well crafted and gives the watcher a feeling of involvement with the characters as they search for and find the crocodile that has been eating locals in an african river system. The film was actually based on real events, the inclusion of a documentary film crew, a local warlord and a witchdoctor who is taken and killed by bad men add the lyrical tone the film seeks. Entertaining and yet moving this story has an ending which involves Gustave the croc with Little Gustave his equivalent in the world of men and our all seeing film crew in a life or death struggle.

Very good and entertaining Crocodile film
Very good and entertaining Crocodile film...second only to 'BlackWater'. What makes this movie different is that it isn't solely about the Crocodile...it tackles the genocide that went on in Africa too. Dominic Purcell (Prison Break / Flash / Legends of Tomorrow) stars. The Crocodile looks pretty good and although CGI.....moves just like a real one.

and this one was actually far better than expected
I was not sure what to expect with this... I am really into my cheesy 'creature feature' films, and this one was actually far better than expected! With a decent story line and not too many bad effects - I recommend to anyone who appreciates this kind of film. I actually squealed like a girl at one point, much to my other half's amusement... !!
