LADIES - YOU NEED THIS.I have PCOS & have the WORST cramping/stomach pain that can come out of nowhere, anytime. It’s actually 4AM and I’m wide awake with terrible cramps. The moment I turned my pad on I felt relief (as usual), so much that I had to come on here, go back 3 years of amazon order history, and write my first review.I have my heating pad turned on high and it offers me INSTANT relief. No Advil, Tylenol, Ibuprofen gives me pain relief like this pad does. I can actually feel my muscles relaxing the moment I put it on, I swear. The chord is long so you can curl up with it, it automatically shuts off after about ~45ish minutes which I love because I fall asleep with it often. It’s extremely soft and the shape, which is designed for shoulders, actually works really well on your lap/lower stomach area too! Not to mention it’s very soft, thick enough so you don’t just feel the chords inside (I’ve felt some cheap heated blankets like that), and flexible to where you can position it the way you need it. I love this thing. My roommate had it in college and I stole hers all the time and ended up buying the same one I loved it so much! Three years later is still my go to when I’m in pain. So in total, I have been using this product for 5 years!The “smell” is the wires heating up inside the soft material, I think. I mean anything that heats up like this (space heater, radiator) kind of projects this “heat” smell. It’s an absolute non-issue for me, as it’s faint and I’m more focused on not being in pain anyway! Of course, I don’t use this on my shoulders right next to my nose, either. There’s no smell when the pad is turned off.Heat wise, some people are saying it doesn’t get very hot. I disagree! I think if it got any hotter you wouldn’t be able to keep it on direct skin for very long. On high, this thing puts out heat that is still comfortable and effective.There are so many pros to this heating pad. If you suffer from terrible period cramps, stomach pains, headaches, back pain, this is the thing for you. It’s soft, cozy, comforting, and totally worth every penny!!

I have chronic neck tightness after a whiplash injury from a car accident several years ago. Had physical therapy at the time, but I always seem to get tightness in my upper back and neck area. Could be compensation for the injury, or just getting older. On the days it's bad I usually I put a heated neck pillow around my neck and shoulders, and also the heating pad against my back. The combo of the two is clumsy, and really wasn't doing the trick.I came across this item and I am very glad I purchased it. This hits the spot and delivers heat all around. It's great for me as one item to target my troubled neck and upper back/shoulder areas. It has multiple heat settings and gets hot super quick, a big plus in my book.Also as others have mentioned, there is a bit of weight to it versus a regular heating pad. This is great because it keeps the item pulled down and in closer contact to your skin. I also love the magnetic closure at the front, as it keeps it closed and settled on top of your shoulders and also in place at the back of your neck. For me its extremely comfortable to wear, but I don't have large shoulders so I can see this not closing in the front for some. This works well for my body size and as noted in the picture, that is exactly how it fits across the shoulders and back.This is a great product and much better than my heated neck pillow and heating pad combo. As another reviewer said, a longer back section would be a great enhancement to this product.

I had been eyeing this for a while, but wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money. I ended up getting some Amazon gift cards for Christmas, so I decided to go for it and I'm VERY glad that I did.I have a lot of neck and shoulder issues and can never get a "regular" heating pad positioned in the right way. This heating pad is perfect. It has 4 heat settings and since I LOVE things being as hot as they can be, I turned it on to HIGH and the temperature was just perfect. Warm, but not scalding.The pad itself has "weights" in it that keep the shoulder portions securely on your shoulders, so there is no sliding or slipping. The area for your neck has heating wires in it and it stands up perfectly to cover the neck.I'm so delighted with this product and wish I would have bought it sooner. I'm not a fan of the two-hour automatic shutoff, but I know its a safety thing....if I had my way, it would stay on for 10 hours at a stretch! :)One last thing...the fabric is NOT cheap like some heating pad covers are....its very soft and yet still feels sturdy. Its also machine washable, which is nice.If you have neck or shoulder issues, I would definitely recommend purchasing this!UPDATE: December 31, 2013. Recently, the heating pad stopped working out of the blue. There was no heat coming out of it and the "auto shutoff" light just kept blinking. I called the Sunbeam Customer Service (1-800-435-1250) and explained the problem. She knew right away what the issue was. Apparently, when the heating pad is plugged into a surge protector or an extension cord (basically anything OTHER than a wall socket), the heating pad will just poop out. It doesn't say that in the manual, but immediately she offered to send a new replacement because it was still under warranty. Currently, they are out of stock for 4-6 weeks, which is a bummer, but the customer service was great, no hassle and I will be receiving my new heating pad in about a month. Just remember when you buy this, plug it directly into the wall! Hope this helps!
