Letters on Cézanne

I have never read such a book on Cezanne. Rilke did a rare and wonderful writing and very deep interpretation of one of the most difficult painter of all time!

Arrived quickly -- just as described!

This book is great. Each of Rilke's passages is only a couple of pages long, but each one is as rich in language as Cezanne's paintings are rich in color. He can really make you feel what he's talking about, and his love and admiration for "the old man" is touching.

Rilke is full of insight as usual.

I have most of the Books currently published in English on Cezanne as I intended to do a PhD on him, but I dismissed this book as I thought it would not be much use as it is a poet sending letters to his wife about an exhibition of Cezanne's work - how wrong I was to neglect this little book!Rilke's insight into the work of Cezanne is really enlightening, as a poet his sensibilities matched with Cezanne and he could get to the essence of Cezanne's vision. I now think this is one of the best books available on Cezanne and understanding his vision.

His ability to create pictures through words is a marvel.
