A Different Way of Viewing of History
Most history is political or military. Economic history is the poor cousin. For example, books are written on the Civil War, yet little attention is paid to soldier pay, weapons funding, or uniform procurement. All of these items takes some form of payment in the form of money which require loans, taxes, or bonds.Even economist tend to overlook the history of economics. Our financial system was developed over many years with the evolution of Banks, paper money, resource development, labor, and management. Inflation, depression, business panics, labor movements, and foreign trade are all part of the American story."History of the American Economy" provides a excellent survey of the creation of the society we enjoy today. Mostly easy to understand, some economy terminology and diagrams were boring and too technical. I skipped the dull sections and found the book to be interesting and filled with knowledge. I have a much better understanding of the gold and silver debates, the creation of banks, the first printing of money by the federal government during the Civil War, and the modern financial system we live with today. Overall, you can't understand American History without knowledge of the economic underpinnings. I use the information when making investment decisions and analyzing current events.

kind of a wordy for a novel
This gives me a view of history that I actually enjoy learning about. I absolutely could not stand my history classes in high school. Also, it probably deserves all the stars, but since it is an assigned reading for school, there's no way i'm giving it 5 stars, out of principal.
