I bought this book after participating in a Kaizen workshop with the author of this book in Germany. Last week Mr. Takeda was here in the US to lead nine workshops in two of our Michigan locations. The book is obviously nothing like having the author lead the workshop, but a lot of the principles in the workshop are found in the book. Mr. Takeda has consulted to companies in 14 countries over the past 20 years, therefore he knows what works.

Overall, this book does a fairly good job of introducing TPS, with some variation that some purists may disagree with. The title would have you think tht they had some new insight, but I would recommend "The Toyota Fieldbook" if you wnat to move beyond the basics.Another point that surprised me was the direct pitch for consulting services - making the book somewhat of an info-mercial, rather than an independent instruction manual.
