A Wonderful Insight into Twilight
I very much enjoyed reading this book because it really delves into different aspects of the movie. Things that ordinary people don't know about movie making are found in this book. I really liked how the notes are in Catherine Hardwicke's handwriting-- it feels so creative and personal. I love how it seems like this is her notebook that she carried all over the set and everywhere she went-- it seems like as she was thinking, she jotted down things in this book.Another creative thing that I enjoy is her little doodles all over the pages and the cute drawings to illustrate different things. The book is small and easy to carry and I'd rather have that over a big bulky book because those can get heavy. All of the pictures are in great color, but a few of them are blurry, but still fun pictures. I really enjoy the drawings made by various peoples on the crew-- they're so creative and different to what I expected. The spread on all of the characters is really fun to see because of how the characters are drawn and everything. There are just so many different little things to explore within the book and even details on the steamy kiss scene! However, the only disappointment that I found was that the binding is so tight and pulled that you have to force the pages in order to see what's in the binding and you can't see the full pictures. Other than that, everything about it is so cool. The cover is actually my favorite part. The photo nearly doesn't give it credit.Being a lover of Twilight and all Twilight things, this is definitely a good collectible for the saga. Catherine Hardwicke seems like such a chill person and from reading her book, she sounds like a great person. I really wish that she could direct New Moon because she would actually have some money to play with-- even though she did a fabulous job with Twilight. I do wish she was directing New Moon though. I wonder if Chris Weitz will make the same sort of insight into a book?

An insightful look at the making of TWILIGHT through the lens and imagination of its director, Catherine Hardwicke.
A pocket-sized (5.25 x 8.25 inch) hardback book, in full color, with hundreds of photographs and illustrations (including storyboards), this book delivers exactly what it promises: a "Director's Notebook" that tells "the story of how we made the movie." Hardwicke's journey on this film, as she has made clear in numerous interviews, was an adventure: shooting on location under weather conditions that included driving rain, sleet, numbing cold, or various combinations thereof, hardy Hardwicke persevered to deliver a film that far exceeded box office and studio expectations. This book is a behind-the-scenes look at how Hardwicke envisioned the movie from start to finish: a rare glimpse at a film maker's diary, complete with Hardwicke's own sketches (she was an architect before she became a film director), handwritten notes, candid photos from the movie, conceptual artwork, storyboards (black-and-white drawings that frame a shot for the camera), and film stills. The result is an intimate book, one in which Hardwicke's infectious enthusiasm makes you appreciate just how difficult it is to produce a movie--much less one shot on location under such challenging (an understatement) conditions.Fans who want a nuts-and-bolts "Making of" will certainly want to buy the authorized film book, TWILIGHT: THE COMPLETE ILLUSTRATED MOVIE COMPANION. (It's excellent, thorough, and at 8.5 x 11 inches, shows off the full color photos very well.) But this little gem belongs right next to it on the bookshelf. At $17.99 (list price), it's a recommended buy; at $9.89 (its current price), it's the Twilight bargain of the year.PS: It should be noted that Hardwicke chose not to helm NEW MOON because she felt the budget was inadequate and there wasn't sufficient time allowed to shoot what is obviously a more demanding (film-wise) movie than TWILIGHT. More's the pity. Chris Weitz is certainly up to the challenge, but I really felt Hardwicke's sensibilities made her the ideal choice to for all four Twilight films. We don't have Hardwicke on NEW MOON, but we do have this little gem of a book, which is really her extended love letter to the TWILIGHT movie, to Stephenie Meyer, and the small army of people that were mobilized to bring it to the screen.

Great, but not what I expected at all...
I was expecting a lot more text in the book. I was surprised to see that every page was pretty much a photo with some handwriting scrawled in. I understand that this was indeed a director's notebook and that's what they do but I expected to read more of what Catherine felt and thought during the creation of the film. I was expecting something a bit more intimate, a little insight into the mind of the director. However, I was entertained with the pictures and it was pretty interesting in the end. I can't say that I was disappointed in the photos. I love Twilight and this is a great piece to add to my collection of memorabilia but it just would have been nice to see more writing and more from the heart of the director. But we must take into consideration the audience for which these books were initially written, young adults, and then it makes more sense to me. I am not of that age bracket and what appeals might not be the same for them. All in all, it's still a good book but if you're looking for something to actually READ, this book isn't it.

BUY THIS!
I am a huge fan of twilight and have the entire companion guides but this is much better! It has so much detail on how the film was shot! It goes into detail on how takes were shot such as the van shot where Edward saves Bella. It also shows sketches of how outfits were drafted and then chosen as with the locations. It has so much detail and sketches as well as lovely pictures. It is the directors notebook, she comes across as very down to earth and puts alot of detail in this notebook! If your a fan of twilight its a perfect companion to have. Its brilliant! Please rate my review as helpful :)

One of the best books I have read this year!
This book is perfect for:a) an immense Twilight fanb) a movie fanc) a budding directorThis book is amazing. Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the movie interpretation of Stephenie Meyer's famous 'Twilight' novel, has written this director's notebook brilliantly. Her natural humour shines through in this witty, enlightening, interesting and very informative book (that is also great for anyone interested in the general movie process). The pictures that fill the pages of this scrapbook/notebook style novel are of stunning quality, many of which are backstage shots that capture the unseen fetaures of movie making. This book covers the intricate stages of costume designing, to how many shots it took to fit the Twilight novel's iconic, apple front cover into a scene of the film. A one hundred percent reccommended buy that is great for either reading in a few days or dipping in and out of to find out facts and snippets of info that will impress the Twilight Saga Club! FOR THOSE BARGAIN HUNTERS: I bought this book from another company through Amazon. They are what's called 'fulfilled by Amazon'. Basically, they send all their products to the Amazon warehouses, and then get Amazon to handle the delivery and returns. Their products are entitled to super-saver delivery (free!), yet are sold at the company's price. This meant I was able to get this book a bit more cheaply than the Amazon rate, but with all the benefits of super-saver delivery and trustworthy Amazon. Go near the Amazon price chart by the product, and click 'buy new from £...' - go from there! It wis of flawless quality, and perfectly new. Enjoy! (Please read this review - it's the THIRD time I have written it full length, because for various reasons it got deleted! But the book was so good, I just couldn't let you guys remain in the dark about this fantastic product!)

Great little book for a film making or Twilight fan
I have bought this for my 11yr old Twilight mad daughter. I had a flick through and it is really interesting, especially for a Twilight movie fan. It documents various techniques used in the first film. It shows set design, costume design and has fun little direct notes and loads of photos throughout. My daughter loved that it explained how they filmed the 'top of the tree' scene!

Twilight
This book was delightful. It showed the film-making process in all its glory and gave me valuable insights into the design and production values of the film. I have read the books and think they are wonderful. So now after studying this notebook, I am really eager to see the film, because they seem to have captured the essence of the books. the art work is particularly evocative and shows how images move from the storyboard to completion - very impressive.

A nice keepsake
This is a really nice keepsake for all Twilight fans, whilst it isn't full of tons of information or gossip, or in fact reading, it is still a nice keepsake to have. The drawings are really good and there are lots of really interesting little facts in there from Catherine and some great photos. It comes in hardback and is about the size of an average notepad/book.A very good buy overall which adds to my evergrowing Twi collection!
