Criticism perhaps slightly unfair?
Street Fighter V has been given quite a bit of stick for its release material, is it warranted? I'm inclined to give both a yes, and no answer.Make no mistake about it, as of release date there is a distinct lack of content, and if you would be purchasing purely as a casual gamer that will just dip in every now and then with not a large interest in online multiplayer, my best advice would be to wait until June for the full story modes to be released. Is the release material that is on offer of a good quality? Beside the part 'story' mode that has been thrown in I believe it is a solid fighting game in terms of it's mechanics.GRAPHICS - The graphics are well.... it's Street Fighter, it's cartooney, sufficiently colourful, and sharp enough for what I would expect from a fighting game - they haven't blown me away but who buys a fighter for its graphics?CHARACTERS - For those arguing that 14 characters isn't a lot from release date - to an extent I get your point, but beyond the simple 6 button generic layout each character has its own strengths and weaknesses. Those that are relatively competitive will tend to stick to one or two characters anyway so this isn't a particularly big issue for me.ONLINE - Where the core of the gameplay is in my opinion, especially considering we don't yet have the full story mode. Since the day one patch my experiences of playing online have been both smooth and enjoyable. The multiplayer is where your true learning curve starts and you will lose (A LOT) until you begin to get into the swing of things.STORY - As of current, what story? What I experienced was a cartoon strip with a couple of one round fights - I am hoping this is improved considerably in June.POTENTIAL - While it can be argued the game is currently a live beta, with what has been promised to be released within the next six months it has the potential to be amazing - I just hope Capcom deliver....IS IT WORTH £40? - If you are putting the time into it now to build up your pot of Fight Money then without a doubt yes it is. Since you will then be able to get any DLC with your in game fight money rather than spending more of the Queen's shiny nuggets. Otherwise you are looking at £40 plus the £25 season pass, and I would instead advise the casual fighting genre gamer to either wait, or pick up Mortal Kombat X for £25, or the new edition with all the 'kontent' (did you see what I did there?) for £40 to get the best bang for your buck.Even outside of this, for me the game as it stands is still worth the money and is what I expect from a fighting game - To put it into context in 1995 (over 20 years ago now) I paid £35 for Tekken 2 - which while I understand the expectations for games have increased with each generation, I buy a fighting game to play against my friends, and destroy some AI. Which Street Fighter V duly delivers!HADOUKEN!

Buy it in June...
As a long time Street Fighter Fan, I bought this without a second thought only to find there is virtually no single player content.story mode consists of 2 to 4 1 round fights on easy mode for each character and I had completed them all in just over half an hour. Apparently this is just a prelude to the actual cinematic story mode which will come in an update in June.Survival mode is a little better and likely your best option for single player at the minute, there are 4 difficulties easy -10 fights, normal -30 fights, hard -50 fights and Hell-100 fights, again these are all 1 round fights.Practice mode is a standard practice mode although the trials from SF4 will be available in an update sometime in March... And that's it.The actual fighting is near perfect and very well balanced, online fights run smoothly but the lobbies only hold 2 players, although 8 player lobbies are coming in the March update. In game currency comes in two forms: "Zenny" which is bought with real money (100 Zenny= 79p) and "Fight Money" which is earned in game, both of these can be used to purchase any upcoming DLC such as the 6 announced characters, so in theory you can get the characters for free but it's hard work without single player modes to grind with, 1 character is 600 Zenny or 100,000 fight money and one costume is 400 Zenny or 40,000 Fight money. Fight money is earned by winning online fights or by completing each characters story, and each survival ladder, although these only pay out once meaning you only get fight money the first time you complete something so there is a limit to what you can earn for now but that doesn't matter as the store where you would spend your winnings is not available until March. The game will eventually be a great game when it is complete but that won't be for another 4 months and the price will come down drastically by then, unless you are a die hard fan you should probably wait or be sorely disappointed. This game has a lot of things it needs to add and currently offers nowhere near what Street Fighter 4 offered when it first came out in 2008... After 4 days I've already gone back to playing Ultra Street Fighter 4.

Great for new and old players of a competitive nature... not enough Singleplayer content to tie it down for the casual consumer
I have never played any fighting games or had an interest in the Street Fighter franchise until this game. As a result, my first day of playing consisted of me spending hours simply trying to learn and execute the combos of 1 character out of 16(?). I enjoyed every second of it.While Street Fighter V does lack a fun Story Mode, there is enjoyable content here for the competitive gamer as they took no shortcuts with the gameplay. The fighting is crisp, it feels polished- as it should be. Online Ranked and Casual matches alongside game modes designed to help you work on your skills will probably give you your money's worth if you are looking for a challenge and interested in getting into the fighting scene. The Story Mode was abysmal. You play through a few very short 1-round fights for each of the characters against weak CPU opponents. The plot is told in the form of rushed, uninteresting hand-drawings with voice-over. Each character only has 2-4 fights before their story is over. The only reason I did the story missions was because they give you Fight Money (the in-game currency for buying skins, new characters etc).Challenge Mode offers you a chance to learn combos for the characters as well as basic to advanced game mechanics. It was perfect for someone like me. Each character has 10 trials, progressing from easier combos to more difficult ones. The trials reward you with a title that you can display on your online profile to show some level of proficiency with whomever you managed to complete 10/10 on.I spent ~2hours just trying to manage a Heavy Kick Crush Counter -> Standing Heavy Punch -> Denjin Renki -> Axe Kick -> Light Kick -> Tatsumaki Senpukyaku -> Denjin Hadouken. I was impressed with the level of detail required in order to make it work - a slight movement of half a step was required at some interval otherwise the kick later on would be out of range. There are so many interesting combos especially with the V-Trigger mechanic, powering up your characters abilities upon activation and allowing for some huge damage. Apart from all the Trials there are Demonstrations, beginning with easy and going up to advanced and expert. This sub-mode isn't focussing on specific characters but more on mastering game mechanics like spacing, blocking, counter throwing etc.Survival Mode involves you trying to survive through a number of rounds with difficulties from easy to hard. You can unlock extra colours for the characters by doing this.

Great game, will get even better in time.
Great fun, This is an amazing looking game and is nicely balanced, it plays so slick and smoothly and the special movies seem easier to pull off this time. I knew everyone would start moaning straight away about the lack of single player content, but Capcom have said that there is lots more to come from March onwards, including story modes for each fighter that will last around 2 hours each. This is just the start of a game that has a great future ahead of it, there are lots of new fighters that will be added as the year goes on and new modes to play, most of these will be free and will make up for the lack of content on the disc. The game starts off with just 16 fighters to choose from, but they have made some great choices and this is more than enough to get practicing with.It seems that if they don't get these games out sooner, then people moan and get fed-up waiting for them to be released, but if they bring them out too soon with just the bare-bones of content, people moan again because of lack of content. The fact is that nearly all games seem to be coming out with just the basic game on the disc nowadays and lots more is added as the coming months roll by. I'm fine with this, it gives me time to practice and something to play with while they continue to create further content for the game. Look how much Driveclub has grown since it's release, they have added new cars and tracks to that game almost every month since it came out, I believe that this game will grow in the same way. this is the way the modern games work now and we have to get used to it.

Ahhhhhhh some flashback feels of old school street fighter! but not quite there!
Okay, it's time to review this game me thinks...Its good and bad at the same time. Good in the sense that the game play is solid. It has the feel of the old classic snes/megadrive/arcade street fighers of the past. So if your like me who loves to whoop someones ass with round house kicks and sweeps... then this simple strategy does work.. providing you block well. I simply can not complain about the fight mechanics... it does take you in...Now over to the bad, What everyone is saying about the barebones and lack of content... this is pretty much true. The game at its current state is totally dependant on online or vs battle. Story mode is not even worth going into. As for the online game, you have to wait a while for a match to set up, this is kind of annoying but so far all the fights i've had have been glitch free! so at least they got a few things right.Okay everyones saying wait till march for new content... but what more can they add? new characters? That still wont change much in terms of the 'barebone' what this game needed was for the story mode/1p to have been more comprehensive... I mean like whilst your waiting for a online match, it would have been nice to pass some time in playing 1p, But now I have to make a cup of tea instead! This gives me little hope in the game for the future.... as we know about online gaming communities they move on fast...... so I think this game maybe alive for a year or so... probably less when tekken comes out! *hope they learn from capcoms mistakes.........Lets hope the online community doesn't leave before new content comes out... as this will surely kill this game off! and its a shame as it still is pretty decent...Hope this review helps you out!
