As foretold, this tarp has a foul chemical odor that convinced me to respect the instructions to not sleep under it. It does, however, keep the rain offf my firewood pile and out of the construction project opening on my boat. It seems very sturdy and not prone to flap in strong wind. It is NOT for camping. Read the cautions.

We are using this tarp to cover a patch of gravel that leads into our garage until it gets paved later this summer. It has cut down on the amount of gravel that gets dragged onto the garage flooring from our vehicle. It is very heavy duty and simply heavy. I can’t speak to its water resistance since it has been getting soaked from the rain we have had; however, my guess is that it would hold up to a light rain for awhile.

This is a heavy tarp as advertised. I did not measure it but it seems about the right size. It has been heavily treated and does have an odor as others have noted. It is waterproof, it kept water out of my camping gear on a recent trip. Note that this size (8x10) is constructed from two pieces of canvas sewn together if that matters to you. Also when you leave it in the sun and it gets hot, the waxy treatment gets sticky and will easily rub off on everything from your gear under it to your hands and clothes. (If you are using this tarp as a tent wall or floor it should be mighty fine anyway.) Not a deal breaker just be aware of that. I will probably retreat with paraffin and beeswax at the end of the camping season. I do like it and will get a few more. The grommets are heavy and should last.

We originally purchased a Chicago Tarp that we had on our smoker for about 5 years. It finally got a rip in it so we replaced it with another Chicago Tarp. It lasted about a year, it had numerous rips in it! When my husband was taking it off, he was able to rip it with his bare hands. Quality has gone downhill since our first one. Cheaper product? Coating has deteriorated the canvas? Either way, we are not replacing it again with another Chicago Tarp, and will not be recommending it to others.

Nothing beats real canvas for longevity & usefulness. I use plastic tarps underneath on my picnic table, outdoor furniture, & compost bins. Keeps my stuff nice & out of the sun. When the canvas gets old, I sew up rips & patch with pieces of an old tarp. Then paint with melted beeswax. These babies last forever with a little care.

This product exceeded my expectation. I use it on my range house. It’s heavy duty and the finished size is larger than other tarps I have used from big box stores. Others have left a gap at one end of the panel while this one spans the whole panel. I really don’t detect an unpleasant odor, but it is located in a cow pasture so it may be over powered by other smells! I ordered 2 as both sides of my range house open up to allow air flow in our hot Texas summers.

I like this tarp and been holding up. I mainly use it for my roof top basket on my car. I camp and roadtrip plenty throughout the year and carry all my gear and stuff on top held down nice with this tarp. This does not flap around like a plastic bag like those blue tarps. I probably went through a nice stack until I came across this one. I had a rip from carrying my axe on top but a quick fix with my awl is all it took. Grommets still intact and not ripped off as I use bungee balls to strap to the basket. I'm thinking this could be double duty as a canopy shade for camp. Only downside it does have a strong smell at first and will melt off whatever coating it has on a hot day and stain. Once you get passed that then you're golden.

Sickening smell, great product but I knew what I was buying. Got to keep it in a hot shed for a week to get that smell out then it’s perfect

What I dislike about this tarp is that it shrunk after a rain
