Side Bound Version of What You Want!
YES! These are what you’re looking for. They are the dark green, side-bound soft-cover note books. In yellow they say “Memoranda” on the front and “7530-00-222-0078 FEDERAL SUPPLY SERVICE” on the back. The green covers are a faux leather look with little stippled dot-holes. It feels real nice in the hand. I posted a photo I took of the back cover--it's looks a lot lighter green in the photo than in real life. They’re 3-3/8” wide, 5-5/8” tall and 1/4” thick as measured by me and my ruler. The first page and the last page are blank, white thicker paper endpapers. The rest of the (144 pages or 72 sheets) have 20 blue lines on white paper, college ruled. The top and bottom spaces are a little bigger than the rest of the lined spaces—so you can write a heading and footnotes if you are so inclined. They have a flexible cover and can fit in slacks or blue-jean back pockets. Even when I weighed over 300lbs this notebook never broke or ripped. Sure, it was bent a little, but if it can handle that WITHOUT a protector/cover thingy I consider it pretty tough. Thankfully I weigh a lot less now. These books feel so flexible they can safely go in a shirt pocket too! Other notebooks felt painful if you lean over and into something. Not these. Perfectly pleasant, yet tough and durable. I’ve had painful bad luck with spiral-bound books, but this one is sewn and glued—and never came apart.I carried a VERY similar notebook version of this that was bound at the top. That also survived in my back pocket for years very well. I like these side-bounds ones even better though.Surprisingly, for a military/government item these are sometimes hard to find. This deal here on Amazon for the 12-pack is way, way cheaper than I’ve seen at other places—including other Amazon sellers.I HIGHLY recommend getting a Fisher Space Pen (or Parker Space Pen) to keep in your pocket if you’re carrying this. Great pen, small, writes upside down, etc. Fits on the pocket with no sharp jabs.Interesting tidbit: If you look up the National Stock Number (NSN 7530-00-222-0078) on the back online: you’ll find the supply chain description with the warning “This NSN is unique to one weapons system. This item does not have a nuclear hardened feature or any other critical feature such as tolerance, fit restriction or application.”75 = Office Supplies and Devices7530 = Stationary and Record FormsCheers,Mike from Detroit

Best pocket notebook ever!
I've been looking for this item since I left the Army. When I found it here, I had to have it. This is the best pocket notebook I've ever used. Easy to use, easy to store, and very durable. I have had these notebooks last for years, with daily carrying, and use. I use it to carry permanent information and data, for pocket reference (stats, tolerances, facts and figures), and it serves me exceedingly well. I even store cards and small items in it. I highly recommend this item to anyone with similar needs.

They are more durable than memo books you find in civilian stores like Walmart or such
These notebooks are so handy to have around that I keep one in my pocket, one on my desk by my computer and one in my everyday carry bag. I remember my dad having these when I was growing up and when I found these on Amazon I bought them with no hesitation. They are more durable than memo books you find in civilian stores like Walmart or such. Whenever friends ask me where to buy a good pocket notebook I tell them to look up these Memorandum note books on Amazon and just to pick the sizes they need.

Perfect little pocket notebook.
Perfect little pocket notebook for everyday use. I actually bought to use with the passport sized travelers journal cover and it fits perfectly in it. You get three times the pages with this than your standard travelers refill book. I've used this same notebook in the military and I'll tell you, they last. Just don't wash them. Not water proof, but the cover does an excellent job protecting it otherwise. I remember keeping on in my pants and getting caught in the rain. Thoroughly soaked me but the notebook only got a little damp around the edges and was still usable.

Memory Lane for the "Backside Brain"
These notebooks had a nickname. I will spare you the non rated G version ...Suffice it to call them the cleaned up version: The backside brain. That is close enough anyway. These notebooks bring back a ton of memories from the 1980s USMC.They are great, and I am one happy lad to have found a company that sells these.Bravo to Amazon for brokering the seller too.I like these books' utilitarian aspects a lot as well.Beyond my bias, they are tough and very well priced. If you have an Armed Forces aesthetic for these lil demons, grab a dozen. Why not?I have one in the car, one in front of the desktop, a couple given out to vet friends, andmaybe I will remember ALL the stuff I am supposed to get at the grocers now, huh?Ha. I go through every aisle regardless. Sue me.Merry Christmas 2011 !

It’s bounded just like a book. Convenient to carry.
While sitting at my dining room table drinking coffee one morning, I looked at the Momorandum Book I retired from the service with. I thought I am gonna see what “pops up” when I enter the Federal Stock number into Amazon search. Low and behold the same notebook I carried for over 20 years. Amazon never ceases to amaze me.At 60 years old ya need to write everything down. I put just about everything in the book. Grocery list, work projects, things a person thinks of but knows he’ll forget. Best of all it fits perfectly in my rear pocket.

Quality control?
Update-actually 5 of the 12 pads were damaged. Horrible quality control!3 of the 12 pads came with a tear on the front cover & first couple of pages. I have ordered these pads before from other sellers & they were in perfect condition.Would not order these pads from this seller again.
