The shelves were beautiful, and very easy to put together.

I've been in need of a book shelf for a very long time, and my husband finally got me one. I've had good dealings with South Shore furniture before, so I felt good in making the order. When it initially arrived, one of the main boards was cracked in half and there was a huge dent in the box - guessing from shipping. I called up the customer service line and within a week later, I had a replacement board delivered right to us! I love it! Definitely sturdy built and worth the money.

I ordered the 5 shelf and 4 shelf to go together. I am waiting for replacement parts (2 side Panels) for the 5 shelf. Both bookcases arrived with damaged parts, gouges out of the shelves and on the 5 shelf a gouge out of one side and a bubble in the finish on the other. I decided to use the 4 shelf as is. The finish is poor - look at it and it has a nick in it. The upper molding was missing a through and through screw hole. When I put the screw in, it cracked the "wood" and I cannot cover the screw with the screw cap. The side panels use plastic pieces that fit in a groove and then are screwed to the bookshelf. The first side was fine. The second side the plastic pieces would not slide and I had to gouge out the grooves with a screwdriver to get them to go on. The rubber pieces that attach the bottom molding to the bookcase are a bit too loose so the molding does not fit tightly. The back is like 3 pieces of cardboard, taped together. The 4 shelf unit is not the size it states. I was expecting two 3 foot wide bookcases (1/2" difference in widths listed) Assembled the 4 shelf bookcase is about 38 inches. The 5 shelf bookcases are shorter and probably correct.Customer service rep was very nice, no questions asked, offered the replacement as well as expediting it.  South Shore Morgan 4-Shelf Bookcase, Royal Cherry As I will probably be the only person looking at these I will use them I guess. I read some of the other reviews and thought I should put my 2 cents in. This is actually very easy to put together and the parts were all properly aligned when doing so. If you follow the directions and lay the pieces out BEFORE HAND in order you will be using them, have all the tools the directions TELL you to have at the ready and some patience you should be able to do this without any issue at all. I did this project alone and had the 3 shelf bookcase together and in place in less than 1hr and that is taking the time to make all my "connections" are tight and solid so this will be a good solid piece for a while to come. that 1hr was including hauling out the old one. For the amount of money spent on this I think it's a good value and it looks pretty good. Keep in mind.. this is not a show piece. this is a 100.00 book case. Again.. for the money I actually think it looks pretty good.

The South Shore Morgan 3-shelf bookcase is a decent bookcase, easy enough to put together, and fortunately came with all it's parts. It's a nice style, with the curved trim. It's also tall, at 44", and each shelf is 12" deep. Those are the positives. The negatives... well, it's made from cheap materials, some that don't even fit properly. The back piece--it's so thin that there is a sticker that warns not to throw it out! I thought it was recydling too so I was totally going to toss it... alas, it's the entire back of the shelf, tri-folded. Luckily, once carefully nailed into place, it looks fine.Each shelf can hold 20 lbs. although it's not stated how much weight the top can hold. Twenty pounds is not a lot of weight for a shelf--you couldn't load it up with a mix of books like a regular bookshelf. We're using it as a toy storage shelf, so we probably won't exceed the weight limits. We have an Ikea bookshelf (Kallax 4-shelf cube for $35.99) for that. The Ikea bookshelf cube is so strong, we had it full of a mix of hardcover & softcover books plus had a 5 gallon first tank on the top. I'd never, ever put a fish tank on this South Shore Morgan bookcase.I added some photos of the design and/or manufacturing problems I encountered while assembling the bookshelf. The left & right front sides of the bookshelf are two pieces of wood that you screw on. Unfortunately, they aren't long enough for the job, and leave gaps (as seen on both the left bottom and right bottom edges in the photos). The gaps between the sides and base and are hard to miss. In those same photos, the curved base front panel is very poorly attached--I can push it in and out. On the left hand side, the front panel is attached tighter at the top, and on the right hand side, it's attached looser at the top. The last photo shows the top corner, basically how the black edges are worn down, leaving unsightly lines.This is more like a 2.5 star review, and here's why: I absolutely do not like the cheapness of this product, and for that, I'd easily give just 2 stars. However, the design is decent, and it looks nice, although not close up. Another plus is that the directions are fun and easy to follow. They even recommend putting on music to prepare--I really liked that suggestion and we played the Rocky theme song amongst others.Personally, I could not recommend this product, especially compared to the far less expensive Ikea shelves that are much for capable in strength and manufacturing quality.

The customer support from South Shore is excellent. I received my bookcase on Friday evening. One of the side panels was damaged in transit. I immediately reached out through email and expected a long wait to hear back. I received an email within 30 minutes clarifying which piece was damaged and I responded and the very next business day I received an email letting me know the replacement part was on it’s way. The thing that makes this even more impressive is that this took place as the coronavirus shutdowns were occurring.

Over the years I've bought and assembled a number of these shelves, and this is one of the better quality and easier to assemble. It looks as much like real wood as some other real wood shelves I have, took a little over an hour to assemble (just myself), and only needed a screw driver and small hammer to do so. Would certainly recommend this item.

Wasn't hard to put together, but for the money I expected it to look better. There are areas where the wood shows through the black and pieces don't come completely together. I could have bought this for half the price locally.

Nice looking shelf, very easy to assemble. Not the greatest quality... laminate finish is really just a sticker, but looks like real wood. Shelves are thick and sturdy and can support heavy textbooks.TOOLS REQUIRED: You will need a star and/or flat head screwdriver and a hammer FOR SURE. Seems like better or similar quality to IKEA furniture.***MY ONLY ISSUE: the bottom shelve had two holes which were not drilled deep enough by the manufacturer, so I had to have someone drill them deeper to insert the bolt fasteners (?not sure what their actually called). ***

Nice colour and fairly easy to assemble. Original order was missing pieces so a replacement one had to be sent. Good size and looks great with the bins that can be ordered with it. Not all pieces fit well together. Goes together similar to ikea products but without the same quite.

I bought 2 of these both broken when I opened the box. One I cant even use the shelf is busted in half

Bookshelf for office. Nice colour, made of fibre board but still seems reasonably sturdy. I got two, the back piece didn't seem to fit quite perfectly on one of them.
