The Space Between: The Point of Connection

Seemingly excellent relationship advice but cringe-worthy context
I bought this book for an elaboration of practices developed since “Getting the Love You Want.” There are excellent chapters on Safe Conversations, Zero Negativity, and Affirmations. Most of the rest of the book seemed to detract from this content. As a biologist I found most of the scientific metaphors and metaphysical claims challenging to follow to downright inaccurate. I am going to advise my husband, a political philosopher studying equality and democracy, to skip the chapters discussing the history of these relational ideas in Western culture. I so, so wished the authors had partnered with (or read more from) real experts in neuroscience, evolution, ecology, social science, and normative ethics before allocating so much of the book to building this tenuous framing involving nature, culture, the brain, etc. I think they might actually be heartened by how much good research has already been done here (it would have been nice to point readers in that direction).I still think the core ideas could be good, so I do not regret the purchase. As others wrote, the book reads like a pamphlet, and I suggest it should be even shorter. Also be aware that the book seems to be missing a good copy editor, but it is not too hard to read past the problem areas.Warning: The Kindle version is riddled with typos and I believe does not support bookmarking or highlighting. Under no circumstances should it be given as a gift.

An Inspiring and Instructional Book For Couples
In this beautifully written, inspiring book, relationships are described as consisting of “two people and the space between them.” As an experienced couple’s therapist, I read this book with great interest. The authors’ apparent goal is to help couples focus less on their individual selves, and more on how they handle the space between them, which is not empty air, but a high-energy space that must be attended to and cared for by the couple. This book is also filled with gently and clearly described exercises that will walk any couple through the process of practicing having Safe Conversations together about difficult or painful topics and past or current hurts. The book does not focus on only handling difficult or negative couples problems, however. It also includes structured questions and exercises for couples to invite positive energy and feelings into their relationship. Many couples would benefit greatly from going through the book together, answering the questions and working through the exercises.I recommend this book to couples who want to get closer but who cannot go to couples therapy. I think it would be very useful to help them bond and learn new communication skills together.Thank you Drs. Hunt and Hendrix! I will be recommending this easy-to-use, nurturing and positive book to many of the couples I see for therapy.

So simple, so necessary.
Easy read with concrete steps to take in order to improve our relationships. This book teaches good practices for every couple, parent, child, colleague, acquaintance and friend. It ought to be required reading before marriage and the techniques learned in elementary schools. Imagine a world with more wonder and joy. This is a solid start to reach that goal.

Better luck next time
It didn't save my relationship but it's just as well. My ex was a terrible listener and liar- mostly to himself or herself 🙄

The content is helpful and easy to understand
The content is helpful and easy to understand. The themes important and thoughtful. The EBook is POORLY edited. Words are misspelled, sentences are in complete. The star rating was for the content but I could not in good conscious, go higher given the rest.

Relationship explanation and advice distilled
Hendrix/Hunt are great clinicians, teachers and writers. Many get parts of the picture--these two see the overview and can say how to fix interactions. This is the best of their writing for it's brevity, clarity and precision!

Very poor quality of the Kindle version
Indeed, I did not believe, but the quality is so poor. It looks like you are reading some screenshots of the book. Please, do not waste your time or money on this Kindle version.
