Mr. Gumpy's Motor Car

This is one of the best books for children!! It’s also fun to read many times over for adults!

Mr. Gumpy's Motor Car is a fun, whimsical story about just getting along. I love how the main character is happy to put up with his passenger’s character flaws and just go with the flow to enjoy the day and the friendships surrounding him.

My daughter's favorite book for quite a long time; she called it "The Rain Book," we think because she was so impressed by the wonderful evocative pictures of the stormy part of the day, just before the car got stuck in the mud. In reading the part about the efforts the children and animals made to push the car out of the mud, my husband took great liberties, adding his own verbs to the list in the book: "they pushed and shoved and heaved and . . . ." A perfect book for a small person to memorize and "read" aloud, long before he or she can actually read. And a pleasure for the parents as well.

Own Mr. Gumpy's Outing in hardcover. That first book in this is the baby's favorite. Buying second one and first one in the series in paperback to pack for traveling.

This is just a nice story. My toddler loves the pictures and listening to the story.

Everyone wants a ride and as one more, and one more get in, you just know something is bound to happen! This story is sure to keep the little ones engaged until the very end!

it is hard to put a finger on what is so funny and charming in this simple book. But it is awesome. I love it. That's true art. an awesome book I'll keep forever.

I bought this for my 2 1/2 granddaughter. The one from my children’s era is completely worn out but still read, no cover and tattered pages but loved just the same.

Love the book . My Grandson adores all the John Burningham books. It doesn't date.

These beautifully illustrated stories by John Burningham are classics. I loved them when I read them to my daughter years ago, and she now reads them to her daughter.
