Blue Irish New Authentic Feadog Key "D" Penny Whistle

Great tone and easy to play...if you know how to play. Good for beginners and players alike.

I bought this whistle and a red Clarke "Meg" tin whistle for homeschool this year. I'm new to tin whistles, but it was interesting to hear the different tones produced by each instrument. The Meg's tone was softer and more breathy, but also clear and smooth. The Feadog sounds clearer and sharper. I'm just learning and hope to get better on both instruments--and my 8-yr-old daughter hopes to do the same, though she told me today she prefers her recorder--but I think I like the sound of the Clarke "Meg" whistle better than that of the Feadog. That could change as I get better acquainted with both of them, though. If I buy another one, I'm inclined to get the Clarke "Celtic" tin whistle, which I've read is a Sweetone with a Celtic paint job and a pretty box. I'm not giving up on either of the two instruments I've bought, but I hope to add to this review later with more useful information on the differences between the two.This probably doesn't help, but I found the Clarke to be easier to play, but my 8-yr-old daughter said she found the Feadog easier to play. We both tend to like the sound of the Meg better, though.

Love it! Easy to play

One of the best whistles I have. High quality, very durable. It has taken a beating from playing in music sessions and still sounds clear as a bell! Because it is tuned to the key of D, it makes playing with other Celtic musicians easier, like the Fiddler, Mandolinist, Guitar, Accordion, etc.... It is also very beautiful. Highly recommended. In fact, I am ordering more of these... :)

Granted, I'm not a flute player, but I play guitar, keyboards, bass; can make passing sounds with a clarinet and a sax, and have messed around with a flute. This is frustrating: the breath control needed to blow softly enough to make the lower registry sound good is crazy, I can't see playing it in anything but a home or studio setting where you are sitting quietly and don't have anything going on around you. I just ordered a different brand.

Arrived on time and in perfect shape. It is a beautiful whistle. Don't expect the written instructions to help. They were on the simple side but you can always get instructions on youtube.

The price was attractive. The instrument is of high quality...not a child's toy. Once I master breath control the sound will also improve, BUT THAT'S NOT THE FAULT OF THE WHISTLE.
