It has a plate if you wish to wall mount or a detachable stand if you wish to place on a flat surface. **Q: Can this unit control both hot water and heating?** A: This wireless thermostat only controls the room temperature, not the hot water. I returned mine because the clock was loosing more than 30 seconds/day and the temperature control was unstable. **Q: Will this work with a potterton boiler** A: It's pretty well guaranteed to work with any boiler which is electronically controlled. All it is is an intelligent switch - it turns the boiler on and off dependant on what you've programmed into the remote controller/room stat. Thermostat sits right next to your boiler and is hard wired in to the boiler, using the same configuration of an existing 'local' thermostat. The remote, RF connected, element of the setup lives in your hallway or living room, meaning you don't have to physically access the boiler to change the required temperature. The RF connectivity is very, very good, and although our boiler is in the loft, I can set the temperature from any room in the house. Well worth replacing the old models. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plenty of quality features for not a lot of money let down by poor operating manual. *by S***N on 5 November 2020* Having installed a wired one for a customer, I installed this wireless one in my own home. I purchased it to replace a Salus RT500RF which unfortunately broke down after 2-3 years. I investigated why the fuse blew in the receiver and decided that it was an uncommon fault so took a chance with this one. Any way, they now come with a 5 year warranty! Easy enough to install to a pre-existing position and as I have had a similar Salus product, programming had a familiarity to it. The ON/OFF switches and the AUTO/MANUAL switch on the receiver are new and useful features. The unit is set up by first entering basic details: language, type of system being controlled, time and date etc. You can set one of three day groupings: 7 day 5+2 and individual. There are 6 time/temperature slots. Each is entered by entering the hours, minutes and temperature each followed by pressing the "tick". It doesn't tell you, but if you do not want to use 6 time slots, setting the time to max (keep pressing the UP button) will disable the slot. Handy if you just want a day/night programme. A really annoying feature here is that the time-out in programming mode is really short, so if you take too long in entering a button press, it kicks you out of program mode. The temperature window SPAN (difference between on and off) can be set to 0.5 and 0.25. This basically means a 1 degree control band or a 0.5 degree control band. The unit claims to be a TPI controller although it's not clear to me if it is activated as it says selecting either of TPI or SPAN overides the other. I found it to be excellent in holding a temperature window. It suggests in the manual that it has a learning mode where it learns the response of the system but I don't see how in my case it would actually make it perform any better. There is an option called OPTIMIZE which I failed to understand. Setting it to come on at 6AM, at 6AM it came on Flashing START OPTIMIZING(?), the ambient was well below the desired temperature and although the boiler on indicator was flashing too, it failed to fire up the boiler. I changed the clock time by plus 1 hour and it brought on the boiler. Don't know what's going on there. Hopefully SALUS will respond, but I won't hold my breath. If you just want a simple thermostat, you can press the manual button and the hand signal will come on. Then you can turn the temperature up or down at will and it will sit there for ever. It doesn't tell you in the manual (quick guide) but you get out of manual mode by pressing the manual button for 5 seconds. There is an undocumented Holiday mode which I assume allows you to suspend the programming for a single set temperature for a predetermined number of days but I haven't tried it yet. If while running in Auto, you want to increase/decrease the temperature you can with the up/down buttons. Any changes will clear when you reach the next time window. Also there is a +1 button which you can press when running a program to give a temporary change in temperature for as many hours as you press the button. Temperature can be set higher or lower followed by pressing the "tick". This is also not documented. While investigating the OPTIMIZE feature unsuccessfully, I decided to perform a factory reset. Doing this restores all settings to default and also un-pairs the two units. Just follow the procedure in the instructions to re-pair. I hope Salus have resolved the issue with the clock regulation otherwise it's not much use! Otherwise, first impressions, it looks good and does what it should. (I've been using it now for 2 weeks and the clock has kept perfect time). I have seen evidence of the fringing on the display reported by some reviewers. This is to some extent a characteristic of liquid crystal displays (which this is) but is not visible when the light is on. Provided the clock maintains good time and also that you can grasp the programming, then with it's 5 year warranty, this represents in my opinion, excellent value for money! Further comment: I have been using this on a 24/7 programme cycle and consider it's performance to be excellent. It is very sensitive to temperature change and thus holds the room temperature very well. It's been in for over six weeks and the clock has remained accurate at all times. I continue to be very impressed. If I could give it 4 1/2 stars I would. If they fixed the laughable instruction sheet, I would give it 5*. Further further comment: it's been in for a year and the clock has gained a couple of minutes.
