## Description

Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Honda CR-V (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

Review: Great hitch, great price! But...installation a bit more difficult... - The hitch and its construction are first-rate. The price on desertcart beat what I could get from a reputable hitch dealer by about $80. That's why I'm giving the hitch five stars. Now, before you buy, you should think about how comfortable you are with the installation. The instructions say 30 minutes for somebody who is experienced and an hour for a novice. I'm a novice and it took me about four hours on my 2012 Honda CRV. It is, as they say, harder than it looks. Of course, individual results may vary. If I had to install it again, I would do a few things differently: 1) Be prepared to work in a tight space. The video shows the car on a lift during installation. Few of us have lifts at our homes, but if you can find a way to elevate the rear of the vehicle, do it. Otherwise, prepare to work in tight quarters--doable, but not comfortable. 2) Do not remove the plastic underbody panel to cut the hole for the hitch--just leave it on the car and make the cuts with the panel in place. The instructions say to remove the panel, but it is rather tricky to reinstall the panel due to how it fits into the wheel well. Several posts on desertcart, which I should have listened to, say cut the panel with it on the car. Heed that advice. 3) Get exhaust removal pliers for the muffler. We spent quite a bit of time trying to lower the muffler as it was tough to remove from the brackets. The pliers make easy work of this thankless job. (Check your local auto parts store or just grab them here on desertcart: Lisle 38350 Exhaust Removal Pliers ) Yes, auto care professionals may not need the pliers, but they will save the rest of us time if not accustomed to removing the muffler. Beyond those items, having a second set of hands is a must. I did and it took us both to get the hitch raised in a tight space. The hitch looks great on the CRV and is a solid, sturdy fit--it just took much more time than we had planned to install!
Review: Curt Solo Hitch Install - Curt builds a great product. They also provide excellent instructions and have a video on their website (as does YouTube). Our Honda dealer wanted almost $900 to install a class 1 hitch. For a whole lot less, I ordered this class 3 hitch for my new CR-V and it arrived in less than one week. The box was a little battered, but the hitch wasn't damaged, not even scratched. I asked a friend to help me with the installation, but he was running late, so I started alone: First step was to lay out all of the parts and the recommended tools to verify that I had everything as well as the instructions which I re-read three times. Second step was to decide if I needed to jack up the car. It seemed there was enough room and I am too cheap to buy something that I would only use once; so no stands. Third step was to disconnect and drop the exhaust/muffler which was made easier with WD-40 spray on the rubber isolators and a big screwdriver. Fourth step was to cut the plastic underbody panel (There was no way I was going to remove the panel as recommended, especially since many reviews said removing it wasn't necessary). I laid out the hole with a tape measure, a framing square, a white artist pencil and then cut three sides with a utility knife (The panel is thin and easy to cut. The sound insulation above the panel was easy to cut with scissors). Fifth step was to hang one end of the hitch on the muffler bracket and the other end of the hitch into the hole of the underbody panel. The hitch was hanging, and I really needed help holding it up to install the four bolts into the weldnuts, but my friend was still late; so I used my car jack with a towel to keep it from slipping and raised the hitch into place. Sixth step was to attach the U-bolt into the hitch and hand tighten with the flange nuts. Then I installed the four bolts into the CR-V weldnuts in the frame rails. Seventh step was to torque all six nuts/bolts to recommended pounds. Eighth step was to cut a little bit off of the underbody panel to get a tight close around the hitch bracket. I drilled some small holes and used wire ties to keep it closed. The hitch is now complete and my bicycle rack is in use. All by myself took a little over one hour to install this Curt class 3 hitch onto my new Honda CR-V. My friend showed up as I was putting away the tools and cleaning up.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Curt says this unit fits a 2014 CRV. Amazon says it does not. Does Amazon know more that the manufacturer.**
A: I ordered this part and confirmed that IT DOES NOT FIT FOR MY 2014 HONDA CRV EX. The reason is that the included 4 bolts do not match the tread on the car. I sent the part to a shop and the mechanics confirmed my theory. I called Amazon customer service and requested a contact to the vendor to get this issue resolved. The bolts do not fit for the holes on the car.

**Q: Is this welded to the cr v frame?**
A: I installed in on my 2014 crv.... it bolts right up to the frame... however you have to remove the plastic shield covering the rear end of the underside of the car.... then cut a rectangular opening in it to accept the hitch... ... it takes an hour with 2 people under the car (holding it up and bolting at same time.) now drills, no tapping, no welding) however you probably should use car ramps to get the rear of the car off the ground so you can crawl under.

**Q: Does the package include all the hardware to attach it to the frame?**
A: Gary - yes, it comes with all the hardware and instructions necessary to attach the hitch to the frame. Additionally, it took about 30 minutes to install with a socket wrench.

**Q: My 2015 cr-v has a tow hook. will this fit without doing anything special to the existing tow hook?**
A: I also have a 2015 cr-v, and I had to take it to a place to install. Some cutting of the plastic is required to install

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Install The Hitch Without A Hitch! Tips For Installing
*by J***M on February 24, 2023*

Firstly, the vendor and shipping speed, as well as the packaging are amazing, received the hitch the very next day, packaged in a heavy cardboard box, with the hitch wrapped and padded inside the box. Secondly, the hitch is very well made, excellent welds, paint quality, as well as thick metal. Some tools I highly recommend to purchase are the muffler removal tool, as well as a 10mm X 1.25 tap, and a little wire brush for cleaning out the holes. I lubed the rubber muffler mounts with Wd-40, and used the muffler removal tool to drop the muffler, easy. Next I could see that the threaded holes on the muffler side were corroded from the elements and road salt over the years. The bolts would not even start in the threads. I ran the tap through the holes, along with wire brushing and Wd-40, which made the threads like new again. Next I used the instruction sheet to measure and mark the rectangle needed to be cut in the underbody plastic. I used other reviewers tips to only cut the front, back, and muffler sides, with a box cutter, and leaving the side away from the muffler intact, creating a door that could be opened. I used a bungee cord to hold the door open. The two threaded holes that were under the underbody plastic were in great shape, so I sprayed WD- 40 in all four threaded holes to provide some rust protection and lubricant for the bolts to easily thread in. Following reviewers tips again, I put the muffler side of the hitch on the muffler, then put the left side through the cutout in the plastic, and threaded the middle U bolt by hand, to hold the hitch in place, as I was doing this alone. I threaded the left and right side bolts in by hand, then tightened all the bolts with a socket wrench. I finished the tightening with my torque wrench to the recommended pounds. I drilled holes in the door I had made in the underbody plastic, and used zip ties to stitch it securely shut. Securing the muffler again was simple, easily pushing the mounting tabs in by hand, no tool needed. All in all, I would say that prepping the threaded holes on the 2016 CRV was the mos time consuming task, everything else was easy, and I did this alone. The hitch looks great, and I am hoping to get many years out of it. I highly recommend the vendor, as well as the Curt Hitch, just buy it!
