Hudson Pierce's Lil Brother and His Coming of Age: Chandler and Genevieve's Story...Amazingly Good

*by C***K on Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2023*

This Chandler story has been sitting in my Kindle for a while now. I have read so many of Laurelin Paige's books it is so hard to read them and read some of my other authors, but I eventually get to them. When I read the Fixed series with Hudson and Alyana, I just couldn't bring myself to read this story. I read about him when he was in Gwen's story, and I just thought he is so young what could he offer to a story like this. I am glad I waited to read Chandler after I read Slay with Edward Fasbender and of course I favorite person to hate Celia Warner aka Celia Fasbender. I like Genevieve. I am glad that Chandler found someone he could love. I am so surprised sometimes how Laureline puts these stories together and allows for nemesis of each other, Hudson and Celia to become changed people. We know that Hudson had a part of creating the person Celia use to be until Edward. To get back to Chandler and Genevieve and how we find out that she is more like her father and a little like her mother than her father would ever want to know. It is so good to fantasize about the lives of wealthy people. These billionaires, some by reason of their birth and others by building their own empire and then we see even though they are ruthless in business that the love of a woman can change a person for the better. I read the first three books of Slay before I read this story and I am so glad I did. I am constantly being pulled into the world of the Filthy Rich Billionaires and the lives created by Laurelin Paige and I am so glad to have found this author.

3.5 Huds' little brother finally finds real love stars

*by M***G on Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2019*

If you have read the Fixed Trilogy and the Found Duet (and I STRONGLY recommend that you do before you read this one bc this book doesn't rehash his back story; also note that this review will contain spoilers if you have not), you know Chandler as Hudson Pierce's little brother. In those stories, Chandler is a relatively immature 19 year old who, very contrary to his older brother, seems to falls in love easily. In the Found duet, he fell hard for Gwen who made it clear she was just in it for the not very good sex with an over-eager, quick-on-the-draw adolescent (so my question remains why). And according to the main character himself, he has since fallen for a few other ladies who have not reciprocated; thus, the now 24 year old spends his free time posing for TMZ and banging everything that moves without follow-up sessions to protect his heart. When he encounters Genevieve Fasbender, he quickly dumps the floozies hanging off his arm for the chance to escort her to her hotel room for an evening of what he believed to be some pretty outstanding sex (she came at least 3 times, so he obviously rocked her world as well). When he encounters Genny (as he nicknames her much to her chagrin) the next day at Hudson's office, she tells him that he really didn't do it for her. Chandler is equal parts infuriated and intrigued, which brings out a bit of a dom in him that never existed before... and apparently that's what does it for the little British wanna be media mogul. But while Chandler's love life finally seems to be on track again, Hudson informs him that he must choose between his new lady and his family as her stepmother is not permitted anywhere near the Pierces. How can Chandler make such an impossible choice? Is Hudson right about Genny's motives? Now that he has put his heart on the line again, can he even begin to think about walking away? What I liked:--- While Chandler's character was minimally involved in the Fixed series to this point, he was a focal point of the second part of the Found duet, and I didn't like his role in that story at all, so it was nice to get to know him a little better from his perspective to see what makes him tick--- Steamy goodness with an edgeWhat I didn't like as much:--- Was a little hard to take Chandler seriously as an adult at first because of his behavior in the earlier books - may have made sense to have him "age" a little more in another novel in the series before getting to his story so that the impression of the 19 year old quick-coming, over-the-top-with-Gwen Chandler was a little less fresh--- Felt too instalove for the situation, especially on Genny's part--- I was way off with the length of this book bc there was a novella attached at the end of it, so the story ended around 75% (totally messed up my pacing of the story in terms of where I thought I was in the story)--- Not up to par with the rest of the Fixed series, imo, so a bit of a let downOverall, a solid story with some mild BDSM elements that gave it a bit of an edge.Plot --- 3.5/5Main Characters --- 3.5/5Supporting Cast --- 4/5Steam Level* --- 4/5Violence --- mild BDSM elements (tied up, face slap, tackling to the ground, light choking)Language --- the f word makes appearances early & oftenPOV --- 1st (Chandler's POV)*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild; 2/5 - sensual but nothing descriptive; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere; 4/5 - yes please! ; 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

What Chandler Pierce wants ... Chandler Pierce has to fight to get

*by A***S on Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2016*

Laurelin Paige, just when I think I know where you’re going to go with a character, you prove me wrong. You show me just how astute you are, as a writer and as an observer. You remind me that you know your characters better than anyone. We first met Chandler Pierce in Paige’s Fixed series, when he was an adorable teenager of questionable parentage. While you don’t need to have read those books prior to reading this one, it helps. And if you haven’t read the Fixed series,I have two things to say to you:1. WHY HAVEN’T YOU READ THE FIXED SERIES?2. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU ARE MISSING?Chandler Pierce is nothing like his brother Hudson, at least so far as personality and demeanor are concerned. (When it comes to rocking the headboard, Chandler is as adept as Hudson, if not even a bit more intuitive.) He has gone to work for Pierce Industries, albeit decidedly in Hudson’s shadow. It isn’t so much that Chandler yearns to break away from Hudson as it is that he wants to matter. He feels insignificant in his family, certainly in his brother’s eyes, and he hates that feeling. And Chandler Pierce, far more than Hudson, is all about his feelings. He falls in love quickly, although he aims to change this. He’s all about emotion-free relationships right now because when Chandler’s heart gets involved, he inevitably winds up getting hurt. So when he meets Genevieve and feels an immediate attraction to her, he is determined to keep it strictly physical. But he’s Chandler, and Chandler can’t help letting his heart get the best of him. As he says at one point, “I’m too young for a heart attack, right It’s got to be heartburn. Or a pulled muscle … I probably strained something. it’s definitely not emotions. I am not feeling things for her. I. Am. Not.”Nice try, Chandler.Genny pushes back just as hard, and one of the (many) delights of this book is watching these two people fight their feelings for each other. Their efforts at maintaining a sex-only relationship go horribly, adorably awry. After one interlude, Chandler finds himself shocked at how intense their sexy times got. “I take my belt, wrap it around my neck, and try to strangle myself before falling face-first onto her bed … What the hell is she bringing out of me?”Do you think Hudson would have questioned himself in this way? Uh, no.This romance is all about trust: trust of self and trust of lover. Chandler needs to learn that he can trust his heart to make the right decision, and he needs to learn that he can trust a woman not to crush his love. Genny, too, needs to learn to trust. Unlike the emotional twists and turns in Hudson and Alayna’s love story, Chandler and Genny’s is more tender. Not that Paige doesn’t make them work for their happiness; the road to trust is not without its zigs and zags. When you have a character like, Chandler, though – a guy far more comfortable with the elementary school set than the grown-ups – the story feels, dare I say, sweeter. There are so many scenes in this book that will leave you heaving, both with laughter and arousal. Laurelin Paige fans know she can write sex scenes that scorch and sear. She also writes angsty, fraught-with-tension, emotionally draining, and, at times, heart-wrenching drama. Chandler represents a departure for Paige, something you likely don’t anticipate.Chandler Pierce is FUNNY. He fires off irreverent observations with aplomb, making you laugh just as effectively as he makes you melt. He also helps you see Hudson through a different prism. As Chandler says, “Spoiler: Hudson doesn’t scare me,” which places him in the minority because Hudson scares a lot of people. Who else but Chandler would tell you that “I kind of want to hug him right now, but since he isn’t really the touchy-feely type, I settle for running over and giving him a noogie.”I read a copious amount of books. Lots and lots and lots. Chandler, though, is that rare book that I re-read almost as soon as I finished the first pass. I loved it.
