**Q: I have a 4 lb sledge hammer with an oval hole 1 1/4" x 1".  Will this handle work for me?**
A: The Seymour 423-19 handle I received won't. Unfortunately, I didn't read the description thoroughly before I ordered it, but rather I relied on these answers instead. Big mistake! The description states that it has a 1-inch by 3/4 inch oval eye.  That's exactly describes the handle that I received! I'm really curious how it's shaped, what the "usual fitting and wedging steps" apply and what "minor shaping" will make this handle fit a hammer head with a 1 1/4" x 1" oval hole. The answer to this question is NO IT WON'T!

Good strong, but light weight hickory. It hasn’t moved a hair since I installed it. I’ve almost forgotten I changed the handle since it feels natural in the hand like the original.

    Quality Concerns: Handle's Split & Finish, but all and all, good handle

The handle was a great fit for my 2.2lb forge hammer [see photo] so I wont complain too much, but with that being said, I firmly believe that the devil is in the details. It’s the small things that make a product exceptional, and attention to detail is crucial.The center cut wasn’t perfectly 50/50—it was closer to 30/70. This means one side will be inherently weaker, which affects how well the wedge and hammer head stay in place. Another point, though it’s not a major issue for me, is the finish—it’s a burnt, dark brown. The main concern is the split where the wedge goes in; I’m considering returning it because this flaw could shorten the handle’s lifespan.The handle has some girth, the wood is great quality and overall the handle was a nice replacement for my hammer - I like the slightly more aggressive ergonomic handle for working the anvil 4-5 hours straight.
