If so, are they pie cuts (like a peace sign) or cuts down the long side of pill so you have thin slices?** A: Are you trying to split a round flat pill or a lozenge-type pill? If it's lozenge-type it works fine, unless you need to be really precise. (After all, every three doses you are getting the correct total amount.) I need to split my lozenges at the 2/3 mark, stretching two tablets into three doses. I keep a little scale handy to check the weights now and then, but mostly I just eyeball around where the 2/3 mark would be and easily make the cut there. If I'm a little over or under I don't care, since it all evens out after three doses. **Q: Can it cut an oblong pill into 1/4's?** A: Yes the Equadose can cut an oblong pill into 1/4's. To do so, first you would stand your pill up on it's end, center it between the blades and cut it lengthwise. Then you could lay each cut side down and cut it into quarters. When you put the pill on it's end it will likely go above the blades some. That will not matter, the Equadose scores the bottom of the pill so well that it will split right through. And should it be washed before first use?** A: You can wipe the Equadose pill splitter with just some warm water and a cloth. I have triangular sumatriptan pills from Orchid Healthcare, India and it cuts them well. The tablets are scored at the half point only. This cutter gives a clean precise cut. The tablets should be placed narrow side vertically in the jaws. I cut several tablets at a time and tbe device acts as a convenient storage container. It is worth looking at the You Tube video before first use.
