Pressing hard won't damage the surface, though it could be damaged if you used a sharp implement that scraped the surface, or if you didn't use it on a flat surface (eg held it in your lap) & pressed hard enough to break it in half. I have seen reviews with pics how some people theirs "stopped shining" only on some part/s of the pad (not sure if this particular light pad or similar)... that could only happen if moisture or something else damaged the reflective sheet on the back. **Q: Can this be used for photographing old film negatives ?** A: Yes, that's a good use for such a light panel, but this is probably a little bigger than you need unless you plan to capture multiple negatives in one shot. Such 'ganging" is best for reference: showing a whole roll of 35mm film, or four or six 4x5 negatives that form a natural group or share a subject. The resolution created by such a multiple-negative scan will NOT allow for an enlargement you'd be satisfied to display. An image of a 35mm roll (36 film exposures) needs an 8.5x11 panel minimum. Then if you want to use all the camera resolution for one negative, you'll bring the tripod a *lot* closer to capture the single neg. You need a dedicated macro lens. This is something I have done professionally. Watch some videos for more suggestions. **Q: Does this run out of light eventually? Does the light bulbs burn out? Or can u change the light bulbs 💡 somehow?** A: I don’t see any light bulbs to change. I think when it burns out it’s finished & you have Buy a new one. It runs on LED bulbs so it will run along time before it burns out. **Q: Want to be able to take notes at night on paper.** A: The light is bright enough to see symbols on the canvas when the canvas is against the light pad.
