And it is a bit small. About twice as large as it currently is with an auto off would make this an excellent digital thermometer. **Q: Does it have a back light?** A: Excellent product tool. Unfortunately, the compact zipper pull digital thermometer is not back lit to read in the dark. However, not an issue with mini flash light. It meant to attach on a coat jacket or in your inside vehicle Very well designed the measurements pretty accurate too. Back to the ski slopes. Cheers! **Q: When i opened battery compartment to remove tab, i found a thin rubber gasket inside. do i put that back or discard it as well?** A: Yes, replace the clear rubber gasket into the slot it came from.
