It stays well on the window, and the tray is easy to remove. Just turn it until the tab of the tray aligns with the slot of the metal holder and lift up. I wash the clear plastic dish in the top rack of the dishwasher, and it does fine. It doesn't claim to be dishwasher safe, but I took a chance because I'm pretty busy, and I want to be sure that the bird dishes don't get contaminated.It's fun to watch the birds through the window: I have my artwork up against the window inside, and right outside is the Window Feeder. At first, the birds were a little skittish because they could see me, but after awhile, unless I made a sudden move, they just ignored me.
