I never mixed 2 different colors because I have short hair and that would give me way too much dye to treat my hair. You might want to look for a "middle color" between dark and light Brown. Like number 47 or 46 as an example. I use 48 and it's pretty dark. **Q: How many boxes will I need for long thick hair?** A: This is the only hair dye I use. I have a lot of gray and it covers my gray very very well. This hair dye actually makes me look 15 years younger. Seriously. I’m 46 and still get carded for alcohol. I use 2 boxes because my hair is thick and because of the amount of gray I have. The amount of coverage for the 2 boxes is based on 1” of new growth. I hope this helps you. **Q: do you need to wash hair before applying dye ?** A: Dyes always work better on freshly cleaned hair **Q: Is this good for a white mans beard?** A: I’m not a man nor do I have a beard, but I do know that Bigen is, without question, the most comfortable hair dye that I’ve ever used. There’s no burning sensation on my scalp and there’s no overpowering odor that burns my nose or eyes. The first time I used Bigen, it was so painless I didn’t think it could possibly color my hair or survive a washing - I was wrong. To my joyful surprise, it lasted as long as any and every dye I ever used AND without damaging my hair! Last but not least, it is the most easily affordable so you know I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!
