I woke up the next morning with a feeling of panic and dread because now I had to plan nine "fiber arts" sessions and I only had two ideas. It took a lot of trial and error, and overcomplicated cardboard looms with chopsticks glued on to raise the warp away from the board, and chaos, and kids cutting their pieces of yarn from the middle of the skein, and "weaving is boring," but eventually we found our groove and wet-felting day was "the best day" of one student's life, because the wool smelled just like his uncle's barn. Weaving in the round, using Chinet paper plates was the most popular thing we did, and it should've been the first project instead of the last. What I'm trying to say is that I struggled to teach weaving and fiber arts to a group of kids, and it was messy and chaotic, but we got through it somehow and I haven't volunteered to teach it since, even though it was a lot of fun. This book makes me want to run back to that building and do it again, only better this time because there are INSTRUCTIONS! and helpful ADVICE! and ways of weaving I'd never thought to do before, and gorgeous little hand-stitched pillow projects, and finger knitting and spool knitting and Ojos de Dias (PRO TIP: If your students come with parents attached, get the parents making God's Eyes and they will stay busy all day).
