They were renovating the hotel where I was staying and I talked to the gentleman installing the tile flooring who was wearing the more expensive model, same age, 55 yrs. When I informed him of my discomfort he told me about this company. He didn't like this model as it can roll if you're moving laterally aggressively and then bought the best model recommended by the company. I've noticed that. He recommended the 1" foam because of my discomfort. If you are in constant pain and spend most of your time on your knees you need these. It's like you aren't kneeling anymore. If not, there are less bulky options. I wore them for a week to complete the project and my knees stopped hurting after 2-3 days. It was like I wasn't kneeling the first time I put them on. Keeping them in a safe place for the next hard flooring/base cove project. I do all aspects of construction and keep an AWP Pro gell pair with a flat clear treaded front and a single, wide strap, velcro attached pair with me for any kneeling on hard floors or extended (more than 15-30 minutes) on carpet. **Q: will these work with small calves? knee pads are always to big** A: Yes, they are fully adjustable, so you should be all set. I have had several pairs of knee pads and none have really done a great job. I am a large fella (275lb) and these old knees just aren't what they used to be. I was watching the "SO THAT'S HOW YOU DO THAT" channel on YouTube and Joe recommended these knee pads. When I saw the price I about fell out of my chair but then looked at my torn up knees and figured it might be worth it. Boy were they! These are one pad from your knee down your shin a bit so it is a nice flat and solid surface. I got the 1" version and even with the current blisters from last weekend's work they REALLY worked. I wish I would have found these about 3 jobs ago. Now I'm not saying I am now excited to jump into another bathroom reno or anything but if I do, these will surely be well appreciated. Very solid construction, replaceable parts, non-marring surface, multiple ways of securing, and very comfortable.
