I used a Jerry can other than their recommended one and so the metal strap would not fit, but I had an old bicycle cable and lock that is perfect for it. Even though I didn't use the metal strap, I would not hesitate to recommend this Jerry can bracket to anyone needing to carry extra fuel. BTW I raped sections of tire hose held on with zip strips for padding on Gerry Cans. **Q: Is the bottom of this holder a solid bottom or just a lip that the can would sit on? If it's just a lip, what is the approximate width of the lip?** A: The bottom is NOT solid. There may be a small lip around the side, but I do not remember because the sidecar that this is mounted to is getting some repairs. But I do remember that the main support for the tank is two cross flat straps across the width of the holder that are apaced about a third way into the hoolder from each end. I use tyhe holder on an offroad idecar rig that get jostled around real well and the unit has held up. But I made two support bars that go directly under the staps to hold the entire holder more securly since that is alot of weight. My mai9n criticism is that the rubbger bumpers that are intended to isolate thge jerry an somewhat are mickey mouse affairs that will all fall off eventually. I had to make other bumpers out of foam, which works okay. Even with this problem, it is still a good buy and works well for me. **Q: The picture shows it mounted to an fj cruiser. thats what i have. is there a kit for that?** A: Im not certain of your vehicle without seeing it. When it comes down to it, its your personal preference on mounting. I bought a Smittybuilt mount and mounted in bed of my truck. They make several Jerry Can mounts and ive seen them on spare tire lugs.
