I only gave it 4 stars because it needs some grip on the surface (can be slippery). I cut out some kitchen shelf liner (perforated foam type, non adhesive) and placed it on the surface. Now things don't move. Also, I can remove the liner to clean up any accidental messes. The manufacturer should put something on the surface for grip and on the bottom as well. I bought it for my diamond painting supplies, but it would be perfect to use for snacks or even as a "mouse pad" for a laptop. I had one of these years ago that I used when doing my nails, but the sides were very high and it was not at all comfortable. However, this one has nice low sides, just high enough to keep things from sliding off. The springs on the "gripper" legs are very strong so it stay put.
