    Kidnapping slave work simulator 15!

Kidnapping slave work simulator 15! You find yourself in a remote valley for some unknown reason, you have no food, no items, no anything and a small man in a rubber outfit who is very reminiscent of Tingle from the Zelda series invites you into a small wood cabin. Now when you wake up the next morning all kinds of tools are waiting on you at the table. Now get to work! This is where the fun starts with a small tutorial your life begins. By day 5 i found my character was probably starving due to the lack of food... it took a few days for the spinach i planted to grow and the little tingle man left no food for my character as he worked constantly day after day in order to resurrect the little mans cult goddess! Every day they asked for more work and finally after a few days in my poor little character had grown enough spinach to eat some of it raw, no cooking not yet.... so yes raw spinach with no anything to go along with it. Overall a fun game, quite a bit different and yet alike the other Harvest Moon titles. I find myself strangely addicted to it.

    Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley

*by A***G on Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2014*

Since the game came out less than 24 hours as of my review, it's hard to make an in-depth review. But since I see non-helpful reviews lashing against this game because "it's not the real Harvest Moon", I thought I would share my experiences based on my current 6 hours of play-time. I'm quite aware that this is a Natsume-developed game and this might be considered a variant of Harvest Moon rather than a main series game. Those who decry it as a "Minecraft meets Harvest Moon" probably have not played either this game or Minecraft. The blocky terrain is the only similarity to Minecraft. The concept of the terrain is interesting, and it gives you a broader style of gameplay. The terrain shape also seems to have implications in how your crops grow.Unlike the most recent Harvest Moon, A New Beginning, there is very little hand-holding. You spend about 30 minutes with the first harvest sprite who teaches you basic terrain and crop management. After this, the sprite gives you a fairly easy first quest, then you're kinda on your own. Explore, plant, and do the normal things. I don't know what triggers some events, but there seem to be some events that are triggered based on what/how much you've planted so far.Terrain management takes a bit getting used to. You trigger management mode by pressing Y, and then using A/B/X/Y to dig, raise, etc. Once you trigger terrain management, your screen is highlighted with a 3x3 selection, but only the differently colored selection is the one you operate on. You'll find yourself moving around quite a bit, either to position your selection marker, or to move terrain blocking your view. You can press the L and R shoulder buttons to rotate the camera, and press L+R simultaneously to place the camera directly behind you.Tool selection is somewhat context-sensitive. After you've used terrain mode to prepare the field, you press A to choose an operation. Facing a prepared section of field, that will allow you to plant seeds. Approaching trees will let you chop them down. So it seems like you don't need to manually select your tools any more. There are plenty of Harvest Moon features, beside the farming. You have stamina which you need to be mindful of, but you get lots of it. I've not been at risk of fainting yet. Time passes rather fast, about 1 real second is 1 in-game minute. I'm suspecting that as the game progresses, you'll need to make standard Harvest Moon types of time-management decisions. I've only met a few NPCs so far, but they kinda plant themselves in my yard, rather than a town proper like HM:ANB. Since I've not yet woke up the Harvest Goddess, which is a key plot element to unlocking the rest of the seasons, I'm hoping that a real town will eventually open. There are stairs to the left of your house, but they're blocked off and only NPCs can use them. The 3D in the title is a bit of a misnomer. Most (if not all?) of the game is in 2D mode (you can tell because the 3D status light is off), so I suspect the 3D part of it is rather from the view of the character, which is something isometric view: that is, the camera floats behind the character, and as you walk around the world, the camera can (and will, of it's own) rotate to view different perspectives. The camera... This is why the game gets 3-stars. It moves on it's own. You'll be walking in your field, and it'll rotate around. It doesn't appear that you can modify the camera behavior, and hopefully this is something I can learn to deal with. Natsume used a similar technique in their recent game Hometown Story, and altho it is not as disruptive, it is still somewhat unnecessary.I've been anticipating this game for a few months now, and will definitely be playing it more. I'm not 100% certain I am enamored with the game, as I've yet to hit that "sweet spot" which tells me "Keep playing!".
