Just a small pinch makes soups, stir-fries, sauces, and even simple vegetables taste restaurant-quality.It dissolves easily, has no noticeable taste on its own, but enhances other ingredients beautifully. We’ve found it especially useful in Asian dishes, but it works just as well in Western recipes like stews, tomato sauces, and even scrambled eggs. However, it can have side effects. I don’t believe MSG itself is bad for people generally but for me it highly disagrees with my digestive system (it took a few uses to work out it was the MSG). A couple of hours after eating I felt like I blew up like a puffer fish, had a terrible stomach ache, pain in my sides, until the inevitable prolonged visit to the bathroom. It’s a shame I’m intolerant to it, but sensitivity is common in people with existing digestive issues (I have coeliac disease).
