Pellets barn owl small pellets are a wonderful tool for classrooms of all ages. The concepts of natural history, ecology and predator/prey relationships may all be found in this mysterious fur ball. Small pellets are 1/2-inches - 1-inches. Note: the barn owl population is at a 10-year low and natural owl pellet supplies are limited. Warning: Chocking Hazard - Small Parts. Not for children under 3 years.

The older kids (4-5 year olds) found it most engaging, especially with parents getting excited about finding things as well. The bones are pretty small, but there were lots of vertebra, jaw bones, teeth, skull parts, etc., to be discovered. The pellets were clearly sanitized as they didn't smell at all.

**Q: Is this pack of 20 owl pellets sterilized?**
A: Yes, the pellets are all sterilized and wrapped individually in aluminum foil.

**Q: How big are these pellets? Would I be able to have 2-3 students working on 1 pellet?**
A: The pellets are small but have lots of bones (often 2-3 skulls).  I usually have mine work on one in groups of 2 or 3.

**Q: How soon after purchasing should these be dissected? What is the "shelf life?"**
A: I don't know the official shelf life of these pellets, but we are still dissecting previously undissected pellets a year after purchase and everything seems fine.

**Q: Are the pellets organic and non-gmo? this is very important to me because i am concerned that the owls are not being exposed to any chemicals.**
A: The owls are wild; the pellets are collected near their roosts on private, very rural land that is not cultivated or treated.  Since the owls range freely, it is possible that they feed on prey anywhere in their range.  I'm not aware of GMO crops being grown or fed in this area.  I hope that's helpful information.

I should’ve taken photos but if you’ve ever done owl pellets you know what to expect. If you haven’t this package comes with resources and each pellet is wrapped individually in foil. No smell. They look like hairballs with bones. Some had only a few bones others had tons, some with full skulls in tact! We had kids aged 3-10 doing these and they loved it! The one we bought had 20 medium pellets
