We just threw away a name brand countertop ice machine that bit the dust after about 2 years. We have been using this one for about a month and a half now and are very pleased with it. I learned from my last one that cleaning these things regularly is extremely important to making them last. I love that this one has a cleaning button right on the front. Press the button and it goes through a cleaning cycle for about 5 minutes or so. Easy. You will also need to run some vinegar or other cleaner through it occasionally as well as wash out the inside and removable parts with soap and water. The way it's designed makes it much easier to clean than my old one. You will have to do all this with any ice maker. It produces a lot of ice in a very short time. The ice is crunchy and not super hard. Between this maker and the one built into our refrigerator, we have plenty of ice now. The design is perfect. Lower the door and scoop out what you need. As the ice in the hopper melts it simply is recycled and makes more ice. Who knows how long it will last, but so far, I have been impressed with the quality. I think as long as I keep it cleaned it will last for a long time.
