Despite the X520 no longer being on VMware's supported list, they are still recognized out of the box. I have three of these now, one in each of my esxi hosts all connected up to an 8 port Ubiquiti SFP+ Agg switch. I also used the 10Gtek DAC cables for all the connections. Everything links up at 10Gb and I can vmotion an 80GB VM in like 90 sec. I also played around with proxmox and they worked there as well with no additional configuration. If you are looking for a 10Gb SFP+ card that works and won't break the bank, this is it. Review: Works perfectly on Linux. Been using it with my 10g netgear switch to share the network connections with multiple VM's on KVM/libvirt. Expensive, but worth it if you need to keep at the bleeding edge of technology, otherwise an overkill.
