It IS adjustable, but not by the typical way. It is in segments, so the sizes are limited to the size of the segments, it does NOT slide into itself. You must use it in 16 inch increments. That said, it was workable for my window and I believe the style of the construction makes it stronger. They screw together well, nice and tight, not sloppy or cheap looking, no bendable thin metal. It's doing a great job holding my black out drapes. I needed a smaller diameter to fit the command strip curtain holders (rental, don't want to drill holes) and it's a perfect size for them. All in all, it works really well for what I needed and is definitely strong enough for the job. Review: These have been truly amazing for the price. We placed these on some 3M hooks to be able to hang curtains without hole drilling. They are light enough that those have held great. For the longer lengths I recommend three hooks to keep the bar from bending as it is thin. With the included screws/attachments I’m sure it would hold even better and you can just follow what’s in the instructions. But definitely works great with just some wall hooks. Our curtains are quite long and have some weight to them and with the three hooks we have not had any issues with them bending.
