My fan is mounted in my basement so you can hear a hum but that is expected. I expect to have this for many years. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good, long lasting fan *by S***9 on August 12, 2016* We use this fan as part of a system to remove humidity from the ground below our crawl space. We have three of the same fans since there are three large,separate areas of crawl space that require venting. This fan lasted for over eight years of continuous running in a hot attic, and the other two fans are still going strong. The unit seems a little pricey, but I cannot complain about the quality of it. By the way, make sure that when you are installing the fan, that you use rubber flexible PVC couplings for both the inflow and outflow so that replacement is a breeze when the fan ultimately fails. You may need to glue a piece of PVC pipe or an adapter to the fan in order receive the flexible coupling (I used polyurethane adhesive supplied in a caulk tube). If you have an open stack vent you may also want to use wye's in the installation above and below the fan (see diagram) in order to prevent rain water from entering the motor. In our instance,we diverted the black tubing to drain to the exterior for drainage of the rainwater since our purpose was to remove humidity from the crawl space. The other option is to attach an exterior hood to the vent stack, but that requires more time on the roof (ours has a very steep pitch) and if you are using the fan for radon mitigation, a vent hood will redirect the gas downward toward your house.
