The Vilros fan that came with the case was dead-on-arrival. The second fan that I ordered directly from Vilros directly was also dead-on-arrival. At that point I gave up Vilros fans and ordered this Easycargo fan. Fortunately this fan worked perfectly on the first try and was really quiet. In fact it cooled my system temperature down from 45C to about 33C in just a few minutes. You should be able to see that in the attached netdata image. I am very happy with the performance and quietness of this fan and highly recommend for this setup. And, although I cannot vouch for its lifespan because i have only been running for a short time, I can safely say that has run far longer than either Vilros fan. Also, this fan does not have the blue control wire to allow it to be toggled on and off but it runs so quietly, that is not an issue for me. Ive hooked them up to multiple voltages. 3v they will run slow and quiet. **Q: Are there any instructions for programming the raspberry pi to control the fans?** A: The fans are always on if hooked up to GPIO pins for power. You can use either 5 v or 3.3v. I use 5 v connection. I do not know of a way to turn them on/off with software. **Q: Can these fan run on a 9v battery? Or 3, 1.5v batteries?** A: I use them with my Raspberry Pi boards. They have 3.3 volt and 5 volt pins. The fan runs faster with 5 than 3.3 volts but it is a little quieter when powered with 3.3 volts. They should run just fine on 4.5 volts, 3 drycells in series. I have a Sony XDR-F1HD HD tuner. These have a known problem with overheating and not starting up the next time they're turned on. A fix is to install a fan blowing on the internal electronics. This little fan is an ideal fit - I "glued" it inside with double sticky tape and connected it to the 3.3V power supply inside the unit. This fan is very quiet and inaudible with the cover back on the tuner, and it starts up reliably now. I know this is a bit of a corner case use, but if you need a little fan that doesn't need much voltage and is super quiet, check these out!
