Review: Excellent for bird ID and some beautiful pics as a bonus. - Perfect birding companion. So far, exclusively used in bird mode and find it’s easy and quick to get good pics for confirming sightings later and often wind up with a beautiful shot, especially in good light. Bought a bigger, more ergonomic strap and can carry it and my binoculars, with no problem. The zoom reach is insane and plenty stable, hand held for me. First Merlin pic was from pretty close in good, low evening light. Second was from very far away and overcast but plenty good to get a positive ID. Also snapped an Osprey just as it started to move, so you can get in focus action but best to have the stationary bird in focus first. Exceeded my expectations for the price, amazing tech that’s fun to use.
Review: NoW no more sensor filth to remove off my sensor or images!! Poor tracking in bird-tracking mode - WE are both many decades photographers with real cameras, heavy cameras, but my wife - being smarter than me - years ago purchased a bridge camera P900 to add to her camera bag, and loved it. A few years ago, she upgraded to the newer P1000 and it's still a great camera and while it will NEVER match the quality and sharpness of a real SLR camera with sharper quality lenses, that bulky P1000 is not shabby at all. With years of using the coolpix bridge cameras, she's gotten very used to handholding the camera to get some great images. All of my life I've shot with film, then swapping over to digital cameras and "loving" having to clean the sensor, and now with my current brand of Sony digital cameras, notorious for the sensors and dust spots, I spend almost as much time cleaning sensors AS I do creating images! I finally got upset enough to buy meself a P1100, of course one up on her P1000, and yesterday went out for a first time shoot with the new P1100, and I was impressed! Not the greatest results against my current Sony A7cii and big heavy lenses, but the pleasure was in knowing I wouldn't ever have to clear off dust off a sensor, NOR filth off my images!! What will I do with all the free time I'll have now, just going out to record more memories and NOT have to clean out the filthy dirt off my images? Only my heart and SD cards know for sure!! A few first images with the P1100 below. UPDATE: Warning: the bird-watching mode does not operate as a true camera does. Even with continuous tracking, in bird mode, and focusing on a test subject, it does NOT follow the bird. With my Sony a7cii, the tracking will focus on, and following the birds in flight or not, and each image will be sharp. This does NOT seem to do that function well. It doesn't do well in focus NOR track in active mode or with shutter in continuous tracking mode. If I'm doing something wrong tell me, because I'm doing this with experience with real cameras and first-time with this bridge camera.

Perfect birding companion. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good for the cost, but not great.

I took it out for a trial run yesterday. It was afternoon and sunny, though overcast. I immediately put a UV lens for protection and a shoe for a tripod. I looked at all the photos on my computer and was a bit worried about the picture quality. I really thought I would need to send it back. Then I decided to print some of the pictures. I chose the two I thought were the best quality. The 5 by 7 were good. One I printed 8 by 10 one lost detail (prob a focus issue) but the other still looked fairly sharp. My concern was the 11 by 17. I was prepared to be disappointed, but it looked amazingly good, not pro quality, but sharp enough the I could see good details. My eyes didn't feel like I was looking at something out of focus. I still have a lot to learn about this camera. Getting it to focus on exactly what I wanted focused, may take some time while I learn more about the camera and all of its functions. My initial thoughts are that this camera is good, not great (great would cost me upwards of $5,000.00 or more). At really high lens zoom the sharpness does suffer. Don't bother with the digital zoom, it is useless. You will certainly want a good sturdy tripod. Don't skimp here. At high zoom you won't be able to hold the camera still enough to take a decent photo. Weight: on the heavy side (it was too heavy for my tripod to hold it in the place I set it) Auto focus: fair (my phone camera is better) Value: Okay. Ease of use: There is a learning curve. Manuals for all features are on-line. Not my favorite way to access the info.
