At approximately 4.5 inches long, the cord is a little too short to be practical in play with kittens and cats with sharp claws, but could be carefully cut off at the little creature's head if you wanted to remove it. I paid only a couple of dollars for this toy on desertcart, and noted it’s currently being sold at a big box store (W) for the same price. The toy is a gift to be included with others under the tree, so I can’t rate the durability yet, but it appears to be made well. I was a little concern because when she was younger she ate some parts of the toys, but I am happy to say that it still is all in one piece. She carries it from room to room and catches it when I toss it to her. It has made it to the bedroom at night which is another indication of her loving it. I also have a box that has cutouts and when I put it in there, it is one of the first things to be rescued.
