As mine is a work calculator it is only run on mains electricity. I believe there is a battery for back-up, not for normal useage. This same switch can be set to the off position to switch the calculator off. Please check this. If the switch is set to 'on,' try pressing the reset button on the base of the calculator. It should be pressed while the calculator is plugged in. it is very unusual for this type of Casio product to fail, but if you have no success, please return the item for a full refund.
